Stock Speaker Upgrades

Ok I am not really liking the sound of my stock system anymore. I was ok when I first got the car but now I want more. I would like to upgrade the front door and dash speakers. Would this also require replacing the amp? Can this be done without losing any stock functionality? How would I go about finding a reputable shop to do this with out costing an arm and a leg? Thanks for any guidance.

Depends on what kind of sound you are looking for. Ive heard the Infinity Kappa Perfects and they sound amazing, a bit high on price but you get wat u pay for i guess...

If you are looking for subs, go with alpine imo. I have two alpine SWR-1043 10" type r subs with an alpine M1000 amp. they are very very clean and sound amazing. I got mine all installed at Bestbuy (know the installer there so got hooked up).

There are numerous threads on this.
I have replaced the tweeters and center speaker with Infinitys. They were a direct replacement for the 2ohm factory speakers. It made the sound a lot brighter. Doors will be next---possibly a sub.
I don't know where "local" is to you, but you can grab a phonebook and hit the BBB website for any reported problems with local installers. You might want to find a car show/meet in your area and ask around about who they used.

If your looking to just replace the door and dash speakers, it can be done easily without taking it to a shop. There are numerous threads on how to remove the door panels and the speakers just unscrew. the dash speaker grills just pop off. I recently replaced my two door speakers and center channel with Polk speakers. i used the polk db651s in both doors and a db351 in the center. they were all direct replacements and required no mods. i got them all at crutchfield. good luck.

Thanks guys. I searched and came across the polk db651s for the doors and a mb quarts for the center. The center is in and I really didn't notice a difference. I'm hoping the door upgrades will sound better when I get them and install them.

A simple search would've shown that 99% of the people here don't touch the center because it makes no difference with a CD or the radio. There are tons of threads with the info you're looking for.

I replaced my door speakers with Memphis Audio's, and I have a pair of Power Acoustik tweeters somewhere in my closet to go in as well. The install is SUPER EASY!

I replaced mine back in '07 with an Infinity and could tell 0 difference with an audio CD. My hope was that DVD-A would catch on but unfortunately it did not. The navi sounded a little louder, almost too bright but that was the only difference. They were cheap speakers so it's no big deal.

I'll have to search around for those threads. I'm pretty sure they would've been talking about DVD-A.

Here's one thread on replacing the center channel.

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/thinking-about-upgrading-my-center-channel-speaker-602728/

Yeah it was only about 30 bucks I just wish I could get my stereo to sound better. I mean this is a pseudo luxury car.

You'll be happy with those door speakers but believe it or not, an aftermarket amp makes a huge difference in sound quality, even getting it's signal from the stock amp.

Hey IHC,

What amp did you use for your fronts? I think I am ready for this. Did you just use a loc at the stock amp to convert the wires to rca's for the new amp? I'm just not sure where to get the signal from. Also did you lose any functionality from the head unit?

Thank.
