Speedometer disassembly

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with the innards of the TL speedometer, specifically the needles?

I have mine apart doing some mods and I want to get to the LEDs behind the needles but it appears it will require removal of the needles from the controller.

In my past experience with any gauges, this is the last thing you want to do unless you can calibrate them correctly. However the TL needles appear to be gear driven, at least the temp gauge which might be easier to mark the position for re assembling.

Anyways has anyone removed them before?? I'd rather not be looking for another set on ebay later tonight

Just replaced a few leds, and added some color films to needle lighting and other areas. The needles are now a nice deep blood red instead of orange.

Also notice anything missing on the speedo gauge?

For some reason, I Like this very much. I really think you should do a DIY on this. I would do this in a heartbeat once i find the time.

I think it was pretty easy considering the gauges I've dealt with in the past. However I do this kind of stuff literally every day, so i've lost my fear when it comes to damaging parts on my car.

The hardest part is pulling off the needles & getting them back out correctly without breaking them. Also note I have not driven the car yet so I haven't confirmed they actually still work! But I don't foresee any issues.

The soldering is easy if you familiar with soldering of course. I could only replace LEDs with similar forward voltages (blue & white are usually very similar)

My last gauge project.

Thanks, I never really liked the 04-06 gauges, & had plans to do a 07-08 gauge conversion at some point. I was just a bit distracted with my car apart the other night and I decided to just open them up to see how they were setup, one thing led to another lol.

I think they look much nicer and definitely cleaner without the KM/H it just cluttered up the gauge. The Deep red needles and RPM redline really make them look nice at night, for me thats the best part. I just hated how orange the stock needles looked (even though they are using Red LEDs).

DIY might be possible , I did take plenty of pictures. However I'm in the middle of packing up to move into my first house so wont be for awhile

I think i'm going to try and get my hands on a used RL speedo I really like how their gauges look.

I am in the middles of converting all my bulbs over to white and blue LEDs, so whenever you have a chance roger, please put up a DIY on this.
