Sony Ericsson S710

Just bought this phone, and it works flawlessly with the TL. What a cool phone too. Kinda pricey, but very nice. If anyone has any questions, post a reply and i'll be happy to oblige.

Congrats on your purchase. I have an S700i myself. I went into the Cingular store and many of the employees said they like the silver better. Regardless, they're the same phone minus the difference between EDGE and the radio. BTW, do you know off hand...On the S710a, is it class 10 or class 2 GPRS?

I'll check for you tomorrow on Edge class. Does the 700 have the same 3 bands as the 710?

S700i - 900/1800/1900mhz, radio

S710i - 850/1800/1900, EDGE (replaces radio)

I want to say the S700i supports class 10 GPRS which usually circulates with jargon that is synonymous with EDGE but I'm not certain.

I have a SE S700i. How did you pair your phone with TL??? When you answer the phone from the car, can the person hear you clearly??? My S700i seems not work well with TL :-(

Get a DSS-25 sync station for your S700i and you can upgrade your firmware by yourself. Get in touch with Sung from Global Mobility: www.globalmob.com He has both the DSS-20 and 25...both of which will work. After this 25 minute process, your phone will function better than before.

I wish this phone supported Memory Stick Duo PRO. That's a drawback in my opinion. The only regular DUO stick only goes up to 128mb. I like the S700i. So that phone has FM radio, instead of Edge? I didnt know that.

Mmm...Denver. I was just there last month. I made a post about doing upgrades for all the local members but no one replied haha. The S7x0 series supports DUO Pro but your phone ends up looking a bit retarded...there is a work around for the DUO Pro but its definitely not worth it. At least I don't think so. I have an S710a here that I plan on unlocking and hopefully flashing soon. We'll see what I can do with it.

Can you unlock the S710a with the DSS-25 sync station, or is it just for firmware?

Unlocking the phone means you unlock the network so it can be used with any carrier (that uses the same type of network like GSM 850/900/1900). Most carriers give you a special deal on the phone, but lock the phone so you can't use it on another carriers network.

My opinion is that the S710a isn't completely "flawless" compared to a T610/616/630/637 (Bluetooth volume is low and connectivity occasionally doesn't work or takes multiple tries).

I've tried my s710a with my TL, and it does not work very well. Volume is low as mentioned, and I also get a b-b-b-b-b-b-b-bunch of loop-type stutters with a lot of words. Like it's losing phase, or something. The Acura website says it's currently testing the s710a.

As far as the volume problem, turn the conversation volume up on the handset while talking with the bluetooth. That worked for me while using the handsfree unit in my car.

Yeah, that's all you have to do. The S710 works great with the TL.

As soon as i am able to find a V635, your first in line. It also has a 128 and 32 meg memory stick, car charger and a adaptor so that you can use 2.5mm headphones witht he phone.

It was my cousin's. Dunno how much he paid for it but definitely nowhere near what it was sold for.

I just picked up a S710 with Cingular (blue). So far I love the phone bu the connectivity is like others here. Major stuttering. Is there a fix for this? Could it possibly be the bluetooth from the car's stanpoint or handset. I also have a V3 and am constantly losing connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Been using an S710a for a couple of days. Noticed the stuttering but it is tolerable. The RF on this thing is night and day (day and night?) compared to my Z600--very handy out here in the desert! I also have yet to get the PHONE display when getting in the car... we'll see how long that lasts. I didn't get the stuttering on the Z600 so hopefully they fix the S710a firmware.

I just got off the phone with handsfreelink to report a problem. They claimed that I was the first complaint they had on the phone, so they told me to try another phone. I also called Sony & they blamed the car right off the back. You other guys with the problem should call too, so they can come up with a fix.

Is anyone using the S710a without studder? If so, what firmware are you using on the phone?

I am also getting the stuttering when I use the S710a with the Handsfreelink.....sometimes the stuttering gets REALLY bad and REALLY ANNOYING. Anyone notice if this happens when the phone is paired with another Bluetooth device, like a headset?

I called sony the othere day and i was told to set up another profile in the phone. In side of this profile turn down the listening volume. The guy i spoke to said the stuttering may be caused by the phone hearing its self. I havent tried it yet, but it sounded like an educated guess.

Check out my sale thread for this in the Black Market.

Hey Comptech-

How you change the listening volume in the profile? I don't see that as an option when I edit or set-up a profile on the phone.....

Well to give you a bit of an update. i had to take my TL into service today and was able to get an 05 TL as a loaner. So I figured, what the hell, might as well try and pair the S710 with it. Well low and behold, no stuttering what so ever. Everything was clear. The only problem I had was a one time disconnect but besides that everything seemed good. Now the TL I got as a loaner only had 2000 miles on it. So I would guess that it has most of the updated Bluetooth profiles or phones programmed into the bluetooth module.

I told my service manager about it and he said he would swap out the existing bluetooth module in my TL for a new one. Maybe that will do the trick, or maybe I just got lucky. Either way i think it has to do with the handsfree link in the car rather than the phone. I will keep everyone updated tomorrow when I am supposed to get my car back.

on a side note they are really trying to move the 05 RL's. One of the salesmen asked me if i was interested in trading up into one. Hmm well we will have to see what the numbers are.

Please keep us updated. I just got a new S710 with the lastest firmware because Sony, Acura and Cingular all thought it was the phone. I still have the problem though, so if the new module works for you, I'm off to the dealer.
