Silver Trim Removal question...

So I am attempting to install the PIE 3 aux adapter.
I am removing the silver trim with a thin cloth covered flat head screwdriver.
I started on nthe passenger side near the glove compartmentv with the screwdriver digging underneath the OUTSIDE of the trim. I started to slowly work my way towards the shifter but then noticed its a little tougher to pry it up...
I DO NOT want to make the mistake many have made and bend the trim near the curve.
Should I be prying from both the inner AND outer part of the trim? Do I have to pry it all the way off up to the part near the vent?
Anyone who can weigh in on this with some specific instructions it would be much appreciated. I am probably being a bit extra cautious but this is my baby and I dont want to F it up!

umm

the aluminum trim is the HARDEST thieng to remove on the car
you will probably loose some clips

you DO haev to pry off near the nav screen.. and thats where it is the hardest - i did it once to install the music link and NEVER want to do it EVER again

what i did for the trim at the top was to get seomthing in between the nav screen and the trim to push it away from the screen and then use a screwdriver to push up from under it at the same time

I attempted the same thing today since I just received the USASpec PA11-HON2 ipod interface. I stopped after a couple attempts since I started to scratch things. I think I will take it to the dealer and have them remove the 2 trims for me. It should be a 5 minute job for them since they have the proper tool.

However, I did successfully install one in my 350Z . It was mostly unscrewing screws and very little prying.

It is hard to do and you will have to use some force. This is worst part of disassembly.

It takes effort. I would use a plastic putty knife to help you get a little bit off. As the others have said, right near the nav screen, it takes effort.

What's wrong Justin, are you still having nightmares about aluminum trim?

I ws afraid you guys would say that!!! My DS power window stopped working so maybe I will have them take it off(the dealer) then. I am assuming I could still close myglovebox and everything else would still function if I had them take the trim off(not sure if it holds anything in)

Hmm---seems this would be a lot easier with a dash trim removal tool.
Im going out to find one. I refuse to be beaten by this !!
I am sure I will want to remove this when I sell the car in a few years so I am not going to pay someone twice to install /remove. With everyone who has done all these modifications I am surprised no one else has chimed in with some tips..

you do not need any tools to remove that trim

open the armrest, and from there start to slowly pull the trim up, it takes some force, but it will come off in a few pulls.

I too am waiting for my USASpec PA11-HON2 to come in. However, last night, out of curiosity, I removed the connector from the back of the radio in less than two minutes without removing any trim or anything else for that matter. This site help A LOT! http://www.fperkins.com/Audioinputan...06AcuraTL.html

Where do you plan on stashing the box? I could find any good place to put mine so I ended up sticking it under the carpet on the passenger side.

I've read that site before installation too. But I didn't go with this method because I wanted to feed the iPod cable to the passenger side. Removing the left console panel will give you more flexibility in terms of running cables and placing the brain.

Well, the USASpec came in today and it took around 10-15 minutes to get the new cable back onto the radio (what a pain!). I ran the main cable from the radio from the driver's side to the passener side by going under the A/C unit (pulling the carpet back on the side of the console reveals a path under the A/C). I too mounted the brain and excess cable under the A/C on the passenger side right above what appeard to be a electrical terminal box (remove the carpet screw on the passenger side console so you can pull the carpet back).

The iPod cable just comes out from the passenger side of the console (towards the back). I have the ProClip mount on order (backorder) so for now, the cable just rests next to my shifter. The sound is pretty good, but I'll have to play with the EQ on the iPod since loudness (what I had it set to) is too bassy and flat is, well, too flat.
