With DVD-A and DVD DTS's not being readily available anyone have any thoughts on maybe Iso'ing some of the older harder to find stuff? I recoginize that file share is not a legit manner to aquire these discs but I feel like since the industry has basically abandonded the format and doesn't suppot it by making copies of the older discs we are left to fend for ourselves. Most of the stuff I'm looking for I already own the discs on regular CD's so I wouldn't feel like I was ripping the artist off. All we need is a place to host and we could start uploading ISO's or Bin/cue files.......

 

Hpdrifter...interesting proposition. I too would love to have some of the music I enjoy in 5.1 surround sound.

 

what do you consider older? i like the idea...i only have two DVD-A discs...

 

Older stuff would be the stuff that's out of print...Hard to find....I have 4 DVD-A's.....An example Neil Young's Harvest"...Greatful Dead...American Beauty.....Metallic...Black album.......Not necessarily old music but stuff that you can't walk in to best buy and get.....

 

Not to spoil your idea - your idea is in direct violation of the artist's copyright. The law is not interested in the format of the shared medium, it is interested in protecting the artist's (which include musicians that play classical music) intellectual property and right to earn royalties for their excellent efforts.

 

I too would like free music! But you do this here and you not only bring down the feds on us. But the first thing they do (in intrest of the law of course) is to shut down this site. Guess who gets hit first and hardest? The moderators. So I agree with whashburn!

Ummm as an attorney I'm not sure this is a meaningful violation of the Artist copyright.....If the discs are not being reproduced, and not for sale commercially, then how is the artist losing royalties? Generally, when you have a copy right infringement action, it is brought by the owner of the copy right. The DVD audio format has basically been abandonded......It is the betamax of audio discs.....One would think that Since it has been abandonded, that the companies who were involved in this venture wouldn't care.

As far as the feds shutting down this site....I seriously doubt they would shut down a site for a discussion on a topic....(I'm not suggesting this site host ISO files) Again as an attorney I would think that shutting down a site for a discussion of anything might be viewed as an infringement of my rights for free speech...... All I want to do is discuss the topic here........


However I am the new guy here and I certainly wouldn't want in anyway to jeapordize my standing here or to start trouble........Moderators your suggestions?

 

1st - when an artist copyrights. Its not done by meadia type. IE = CD, DVD, or tape, or MP3. Its the song itself. Not the devise you receive it from. Its like the old Elvis music. You say that because its out of print on vinal. That it's up fro grab's on CD's? Think again!

2nd - I wasn't talking about the talking part. I was tring to say. Don't use this site to do this. Don't trade the song's here like in PM's or like that. I thought I was clear? Maybe not....

3rd - Just my thought's. You made this discussion public. I am just telling you my side of the coin. I am not upset at all...

 

I’m officially effen pissed off, I dedicated the whole weekend on driving around NYC to find a store with DVD-Audio... Even specialized music stores "Ahh you mean blank dvd audio disks? Yep! That’s what a effen want, a blank disk to jam to in my car...

Freaken Acura and Benz, two idiot companies that release a format that us, owners, cannot purchase. Shopping online is ridiculous, as everyone inflates their prices. Unbelievable.

Since they have stopped making this format, WHICH IS REMASTERED, by an INDEPENDENT company, which has already paid its royalties, such items become collectibles...
