You can play a hybrid SACD in the TL, but it will play as though it were a regular CD (i.e., no full DSD resolution and no multichannel). If it is not a hybrid SACD, it won't play.

I guess I'll have to try another SACD. I recently purchased a "Boston" SACD and it kept trying to play, but never would and finally ejected. Any thoughts on what might be the problem? Is it a problem with the manufacturer or the firmware in the car?

None of the above; the disc is fine and the player is fine. The Boston CD is a pure SACD - it's not a hybrid. The TL audio system isn't designed to play it, so it's simply incompatible.

Thanks. I was wondering. Is there a way to convert it to DVD-A and retain the fidelity?

Yeah, I have the Dark Side of the Moon SACD. Does anyone know if Wavelab could convert a SACD to DVD-A?

You would have to play the SACD on an SACD player, record the 6 channels into your PC using a multichannel sound card, then use the 6 wav files in Wavelab to create a DVD-A.

However, you cannot do this if you record the 6 channels at 24/96, as there is not enough room on a DVD-R and wavelab will bomb out. You either have to record them at 24/44.1, or use an MLP encoder (big big big bucks)

Could this be done digitally? I have quite a bit of audio software at my disposal, but I never managed to figure it out. I also have a dual-layer DVD writer.

For an overview of SACD, click here and for an overview of DVD-A , click here. Another format to look at is DualDisc, click here. There is also a list of DualDisc titles being released here.

No. SACD (and DVD-Audio) players disable the digital output when playing high resolution content, to prevent exactly what we all would really like to be able to do.
