replacing stock speakers with JL
replacing stock speakers with JL
as some of you know,im going with a JL sub soon, and i was wondering, could i run some JL door and rear deck speakers without an aftermarket amp? or will the stock one not be powerful enough? the stock system gets just about as loud as i need it except for clarity. once it gets to a certain level some songs sound shitty cause of clarity...
thoughts?

I believe the OEM speakers are all 2 ohm, but most aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm. This means you will probably get less wattage from the factory amp (possibly 50% less), which means you'll have to run the whole system at a higher average volume. Additionally, because of larger magnets and higher quality (heavier) materials, aftermarket speakers can be much less efficient, again producing less volume with the same amount of power.
I think the best options for drop-ins without adding an amp is the infiniti reference series, since they run at 2ohms and have a 91db/1w/1m efficiency rating. I had those in my TSX and the volume was only slightly less. Of course, when turned up approaching the limit, they were still distorted because it was actually the factory amp introducing the distortion.
See my post about DLS components, they're a good name (I haven't heard anything that great about JL coaxial or component speakers. With some mid-line DLS components, an audiocontrol factory interface and 5 channel amp, I am looking at building a very clean, reasonably priced system that will blend well with my already installed 10w3 in fiberglass box.
