Replacing the Navigation DVD player instead of fixing it

I've been mulling on this for a few months now. Yes, I know there's a most excellent thread on how to repair the DVD lense, I'm just not very good at taking things apart. I was considering taking mine to a electronics repair place, but what if that doesn't work?

So.. I've been cruising Ebay, and there's usually a few of these up for sale. $150-225.. Also, you can usually return them if they don't work.

If I decide to go that route:

Does each DVD player have it's own code?
Anything else I should consider?

I'd consider the seller's rating for sure. Maybe google them to see if they are legit and respond well to any issues. I don't know if it is the DVD player or the head unit is what actually needs the code.

It's going to be here tomorrow. It has 2 codes (a 5 digit and a 4 digit) It has a 30 day money back guarantee. Just need the weather to cooperate so I can work on the car.

If you don't have the code, you can use the serial number off the bottom of the nav drive and the VIN it came from.
