Replacing Navi and Climate Control Lights with LEDs?
Sweet mother of god - I replaced 2 bulbs in the Navi/Climate control module today in my '06 TL. I thought paying $7 for two bulbs was the worst of it, but no... it was the complete disassembly of the center console that was the worst.... and of that, getting the center vents out took the cake.
So, understandably, I'm thinking of using LEDs for these in the future. The Neo-wedge T3s appear to be correct - except that 6 of the bulbs apparently run off of 8v (or thereabouts) instead of 12v.
I searched about using LEDs in the Navi/Climate module, but didn't find much - except I got paranoid when reading about somebody who apparently rolled their own, didn't put in resistors to limit the current and fried the microprocessor that seemingly (according to his post) drives the lights in the module.
So - question: has anyone successfully replaced the lamps in the Navi/Climate modules with Neo-wedge LEDs? Or should I stick using regular bulbs?
Thanks
Steve

Anyway, I don't think it is an issue cause Amps a lower, i think the LEDs are too tall to fit. Looks like Autolumenation and Superbrightleds measure the 10mm from the contact surface, T3 is measured 10mm total height. So to summarize: resistors are built in but the height is bit scary. Anybody can correct me at any time.

Haha, no bro, I only changed the green "dual" LED on the climate control to blue. I didn't even think about changing all that backlighting. The blue LED completed my look with the matching alarm LED and memory seat LEDs.......(My last frontier is the red alarm led on the radio and/or the green LED in the rearview mirror for the day/night auto setting.
We have discussed it on many threads, but for sure it hasn't been done on the 3GTL. Too many bulbs to change, too much risk. It HAS been done in the 2GTL with success because it has been done in many previous Gen Accords as well. But the 3GTL is a different animal.
In OEM schematics the bulbs have different part numbers cluing us that the specs can be different bulb to bulb. Neo-wedges are the bulbs you need. But you just can't go arbitrarily and slap the bulbs all over the place, that's how that other member ran into problems. If anyone has the time and balls to get this done, I would be very interested to see what you are up to!

My cold/hot arrows are shut. Anyway. Superbrightleds.com replied and to summarize--> they cant do LEDs 10mm toll, all LEDs 12vdc. Still waiting for AutoLum to reply.

Yeah, I think all of those Neo-Wedge bulbs are going to be too tall. Its because they are building the resistors into the plastic housing itself. The design I'm using puts the resistors outside of the plastic. The 3mm bulbs add a bit of height, but not too much.

Autolum guy has replied with a pic(the same on their site)-- it says 10mm tall. i personally don't think they are 10mm, judging by the look of it. i am going to order one to test it out in the
