Replacing nav screen with a backup camera display
I am helping my friend with his 06 TL. His nav is broken, and he's not interested in repairing it (the DVD drive in the trunk isn't powering up or ejecting [fuses look good]). Anyway, we had this idea to macgyver the useless nav screen to display the video of an aftermarket backup cam exclusively.
If we can't use the OEM display, would it be possible to find a screen with similar dimensions and pop that bad boy in there?
We already purchased a non-video Pioneer headunit (MVH-S622BS), and we were thinking about making use of the nav screen above (since the nav system is broken and outdated). I know it's a strange idea, and I expect a little lambasting, but it sounds so good in our heads. Thoughts or suggestions?

- Is navi screen completely dead? If not then there was a device that displayed whatever you plug into it on a screen. Since I don't have navi I never payed any interest in that.
- In terms of driving the navi screen directly... not likely.
- In terms of replacing the navi screen with something different... did you heard about Nexus 7 install? There are couple threads about that, including my own. This one is probably most famous:

Not really recommended in 2020 as Nexus 7 2013 is quite dated hardware and can be painfully slow. I still use mine for navigation and backup camera, but that's all. Even music is streamed through bluetooth to make Nexus' life easier.
One of those:
might also fit there. The only problem is what are you going to connect to it? I had an idea of using raspberry pi 3 and android auto in replacement of my nexus, but overall that setup was even slower and buggier than nexus so I abandoned that idea. I couldn't make it work 100% on the bench so no way it would be useful in the car.
There is also a "Tesla" style tablet that replaces both navi and radio:

Thanks. I do a full infotainment conversion because we already purchased a Pioneer double-din radio (knobs/non-touch). I just want to make use of the space taken by the dysfunctional navigation screen. The display itself is works, but I have the dreaded "please check disk" error and a DVD drive that seems to be dead.
I looked into the video interface thing you suggested, and found an 11-year-old post that seems to be exactly what I need to add external video to the nav screen. If I go this route, I might have to fix the entire nav system, which I don't want to do. The next best choice would be to remove the nav screen completely and replace with a similar-sized LCD to use with backup cam exclusively.
I might even just skip the headache and simply use the nav screen as a suction cup mounting point for a backup camera display. I just don't want that space to go to waste.
