I have an odd problem, where my Nav screen now shows 3 images of it's usual display, squeezed into one screen. See photo. I have bumped around the entire audio stack firmly, and not change in the display, so I don't believe it to be a loose connection-more likely a failed internal component, like a capacitor or transistor.
I did have my NAV DVD drive repaired by Alpine for the common "disk read error", and that was resolved. I did call them to see if they had ever seen what I am seeing now-the rep said nope.
I am thinking that I would get a used NAV screen (thinking the fault is internal to the screen). Everything works right, save for the fact that if I try to use the touch screen, I have to touch in the regular positions of the graphics (the touchscreen thinks I am seeing everything in the correct place)
My question-if I replace only the screen, will I need the NAV\Radio codes from the donor vehicle? I don't intend on replacing the radio or DVD drive.
pretty sure the codes are specific to the dvd drive unit located in your trunk.
the stock codes you have with your vehicle should work without issue, if you only replacing screen portion.
however, unless you are going with a tablet install i dont know how else you would only replace the screen.
if you end up changing the head unit, you may require a new code for that new headunit to get radio/audio to work.
I plan on only replacing the 'module' that contains the screen and the HVAC buttons. I believe that once I remove the stack, that the screen unit is separate from the radio, CD changer and cassette units. Most of the wiring routes through the back of the display assembly-so, who knows how much of the 'radio' logic might be held in this unit, and how much in the radio proper.

Time will tell
screen holds no codes, just the radio and dvd player. It will come apart but can be a pain in the butt with it in the car. Remove the radio/screen assembly from car first
