Remote Start Not Working?

I have a 07 TL Type S and when I press the unlock button twice on the fob it tries to start the car, but it just cranks and cranks, never fires up. What could be the cause of this? I have looked all over forums and can't find an answer.

If I press and hold the unlock button it rolls all the windows down and opens the sunroof still.

Thanks!

I bought the car about 6 months ago, one day while it was in the driveway I pressed the unlock button twice, the power came on in the car and it started cranking for a while, it freaked me out, the first time i just removed the battery cable, the second time i found if i just press the break it cancels it out and stops.

Your car might not have the immobilizer bypass module installed.

When you activated the remote start, did the instrument cluster turn on as well? In order for the vehicle to start, the ignition circuits need to be energized. Depending on your comfort level, you can start by looking under the dash for the remote start module and checking the fuses.

The cluster turns on, i will start looking for a start module, thanks for the input! I bought the car this way not knowing it had the remote start until I accidentally found it one day.

Before you take down the lower dash panel, try putting the key in the ignition cylinder, then activate the remote start. Do not turn the key, just put it in the cylinder. This will help identify when you have an issue with the immobilizer bypass module and/or other wiring issues.

This is a stock key fob, if that helps? It will roll all the windows and sunroof open/down if I press once and then hold a second unlock. If i press unlock twice in a row it tries to start the car?

Just so I understand correctly, if you press the "unlock" button twice, the instrument cluster comes on, just like if you put the key in the ignition and turned the key to the ignition 2 position, then it engages the starter?

Do you have digital multi-meter or a test light? After you remove the lower dash panel, look for a black/yellow wire at the ignition switch. Check if that particular wire has voltage when you engage the remote start.

Yes, exactly.
I have a multimeter, I will test the wire this weekend when I'm doing the timing belt and get back to you!
