Remote Car starter (Smartstart)

Im looking for a remote car starter. I saw this one from Viper that uses a smartphone app. Does anyone use it? Any recommendations? I hate keychains and keyrings attchd to my car key. I just like my key, and I dont want those little remotes.

Thanks for any help i can get.

its about $69 start per year, they have 4 different subscriptions. but if you not looking for any remotes and just have the key go with Viper SmartStart. google it... tons of info.

I have it as well, I would never use it for a primary because it relies on cellphone or satellite signal. Some places have dead spots so you have to be careful. I have had it on iphone and android and sometimes the app loads slow or sometimes it crashes. Most of the time, if your cellphone has some decent signal, it'll work.
Good luck with your alarm system. I enjoy mines especially when I'm out of town or far away where someone needs to get something out of my car or borrow it. I just leave the keys somewhere inside and unlock it for them when they get there.

i have it, and use my phone as my primary fob. the way my installer wired everything up (using the DBALL) i have lock/unlock functions from the factory keyfob as well so i don't have to carry an extra fob with me.

i have the same qualms as others, the app is a bit sluggish to respond, but it's very convenient. i'd recommend it.

mine is the viper version, 08 auto, using an iphone

I don't have that remote start with app installed because I find it unnecessary.
I just installed a remoter starter in my car due to the winter, and it keeps the original OEM remote without losing any functions. To start the car all you have to do is press the unlock or lock button 3 sequenced times.
It works great but it doesn't get great range due to keeping the OEM security system.

I would like to know which one that is too. And how much does it cost?

I have the viper 5902 and Smart Start module installed. I dont have to walk with my factory key fob anymore, just the 5902 remote. I wouldn't use my iPhone as my primary means of opening the car, the app is slow like others have said and it does take a couple of seconds to send the command to your car. It's great though when you need to warm up your car or open it from far for someone to get something out or even as a backup in case you lock your keys in the car. I still use the viper keyfob instead but its definitely worth getting the smart start.

It's not the best braaaaand but it does the job.
You can set it up to where you press the lock or unlock button 3 continuous times to start the car or lock unlock than lock start it. It's pretty good for the price.

Does it disable the immobilizer completely or will it still function when the car is started the traditional way?

Can it be set up to bypass the clutch only when remote starting?

Yes you can unlock the car by using your key to open the door. or buying the add-on that bypasses the keyless entry system thus allowing you to open your car with THEIR remote.

How tough was the install? I'm considering getting the one with the small fob, just because otherwise I couldn't start it from my office with the factory fob.

Also look at the Drone from Compustar. The performance and reliability of a remote start are about 90% install, but the quality of components in the last 10% the Compustar product is some of the nicest stuff I have ever seen. (and yes, I have seen a fair amount dating back to the last generation Alpine security in the late 90s)

It was my dad and I who installed it. It was simple but the thing that dragged it out was finding what the starter wire connected to. But after about 2 days of searching we found it.
The manufacturer wasn't that clear about things but we found it. I'd recommend getting a viper alarm system. The notorious acura alarm system sucks.

Everything functions normally and it will not function when the car is started the traditional way. The way to disable it is pressing the brake. And yes it can be set up to bypass the clutch.
