Rear View Camera Modification?

Does anyone know of a way to have your rear view camera display while in drive? I think the '07 yukon xl denali has this feature. I know it's probably pointless, just something I would like to have...It would be nice to see exactly how close someone is riding my ass at times.

Let me know if anyone has tried this. Don't make me be the guniea (sp?) pig.

one guy did it a while back here. He mentioned about grounding a white whire to a switch somewhere. I think it may have been near the fuse box..

It's very doable (with an aftermarket camera). There is an old post somewhere on here where a member gave instructions on how to modify the auto switching of the Dom's unit to become manual.

Since the '07 TL-S come with a factory backup camera, you'll have to play around with that, but the idea should be the same: a switch needs to be added so that the camera is on and the video is switched over when the switch is activated.

Having the backup camera on when driving is too distracting IMO.

I'm going to be ordering the dom's tvnav2go next month when i'll have time to install. I'm wondering when I purchase this, if it'll make this camera mod an easier process.

Thanks for the help guys!

the camera gets turned on when you go into reverse. all you need to do is find out which wire goes into the Navi system that gets the reverse signal.

you either ground it, or put 12 volts to it. the navi will think you are in reverse, and the camera will turn on

looks like i will be a green wire on the navi unit. this wire connects to the tail lights

Stock Camera...

I would assume there is a hot wire trigger wired to your reverse tail lights, so when they are activated, the camera switches on.

My question will be is how does the head unit itself knows when to change its view? Answer this question and the rest should be easy.

There is a delay in between, first, the gear is switched to R, the moment you do that, the tail lights are already lit, then 2 secs later then head unit displays the view. When it comes to electronics, Honda likes to complicate simple things

The stock back-up camera has a white trigger wire to it, i believe because there was a member here who did do this about 6 months ago on an 07 TLS. The navi screen has a built in delay in it most likely. If anyone has the electrical manual, please look up the trigger wire for the camera.

it's nothing more than a 1 wire connection that triggers the entire system. when the car is put into reverse it triggers a relay under the dash which sends 12 volts to the navi system. i'm in the process of getting the 07-08 schematics, so when i get them later today or tomorrow i'll post them

So it might just be a matter getting an on/off switch and running the wire?
