'08 Navi - Changing Voices

I've been through the whole manual, and have searched here. I want to change the navigation voice from female to male. Seems like it could be done in earlier models, as there are posts about it. But I don't see anybody doing it with an '08 navi, and I've looked everywhere on the set-up menu. Help.

P.S. It can be done with the bluetooth phone system very easily. Seems weird that it isn't the same with the navi.

Yeah, I'm just not seeing that on mine. Wonder if that is no longer an option?

Male voice no longer an option

I believe they needed to make room for more info, so the male voice option has been deleted in the '08 model.

Not only was the male voice dropped for 2008, I believe if anyone updates to the newest DVD the male voice option will be deleted. Tho its integrated, the HFL is a stand alone module. That's why a male voice can still be selected.

Seems like such a shame that they dropped that feature. I personally didn't care for the male voice as I thought the female one spoke clearer, but I'm sure some people liked it. The aftermarket navi units have something like 8-10 different voices to choose from, even ones with different accents. It sounds like in the near future they will have to move to a flash memory or hard drive-based system if they are running out of space on the DVD.

The 4G will probably have HD based features - music files, navi maps, etc.

Be careful what you wish for (download-wise) becase I'll bet it'll be a case of "you get what you pay for" - Austrailian Accent, $5; Sexy French Maid Accent, $15; Lanuage Pack $75, Deluxe Language Pack $125, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
