Rear Subwoofer popping

so the last couple of weeks my factory sub has been making some popping noise. Im thinking about disconnecting it because of the jl's I have in the trunk, but I think the sub is blown anyway.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good replacement sub for the factory one. I really don't want to have to change out the amps or wires; just a good factory alternative. I was also thinking of putting a strip of foam pad under all the rear speakers to eliminate some of the sound distortion from the subs.

Why are you running a factory sub along with aftermarket subs. Just disconnect the factory sub and you're done. It might be blown or it might be the subs in the trunk making it bottom out. If you took your signal from the factory sub wires, that's not good.

It was the easiest way for me to set it up. Sounds good from the factory wires. It's a little loud so i keep the bass and sub down a little. I haven't had time to dig into yet but i'll probably just disconnect the sub. Maybe remove it if it's being caused by the other subs.

I'm having this same issue, but I think it is from my right rear speaker as my jl sub is using the wires that had gone to the stock sub. It's a really annoying sound. Does it indicate that the speaker is blown?

You'll probably find the JL subs sound better with the stock sub unplugged. You don't want your amp's signal wire to be powering a sub. Impedance changes along with other things that can make it sound bad with a speaker hooked up to it.

Turn the subs off and see if it still makes the noise.

unplugged and sounds so much clearer now!

BTW i realized why it was still plugged in...I took the subs out last year and plugged the factory back in. I never unplugged it when I put them back in. Thanks for your help guys

But if I did want to go back to the factory sub, What is a good replacement?

why is it not good to have my factory sub along with my l7 kicker? I used an LOC. pulled signal directly off the sub. left factory sub on and from that signal my alpine is connected. so it goes sub wires> spliced but still connected> splice leads to LOC> amp> sub.. please explain why this is bad? the loc just needs a signal. it amplifies the signal from there. I disconnect my facory sub and it doesn't sound any better and my kicker still causes my factory sub to pop if its plugged in or not. do you think it would be better to remove the factory sub altogether? and why? thank you!

Simply put, the factory sub is not helping your sound if it is playing along with an aftermarket one. There is very likely a substantial amount of cancellation occurring at various frequencies where both your subs are playing. You could potentially make it work but the chances of you lucking out here are not good in my opinion. Yes remove it if it is making noise when it shouldn't.

I unplug the factory sub and my l7 still makes it pop lol. It's sealed off from my trunk too so I don't get it. I'm going to remove it. I think the open hole will let more bass through anyway. Thanks
