Rear Camera Install Pricing

I have a 05 6MT w/Navi, and want to install the backup camera/DVD. A local shop here in Orlando, FL gave me an estimate of $1050 with tax. This seemed kind of high to me, and was wondering what some other people paid.

What upgrades do you have on your car?

How much did you pay for parts/installation?

Just trying to find out the general neighborhood of what I should be paying.

are they going to use doms navi converter or their own thing? Doms unit is currently on sale for 125 shipped without plug and play harness, 225 shipped with plug and play.
Which shop did you go to, there is a place called audio excelence in longwood that is certified by acura for any A/V stuff on this car, so they might be better priced.

My father said he'd do it if its under 300 bucks. How many wires need to be tapped into if you do it without the harness? Also, where are the units sold, and are these the ones which many members here liked?

Do you think it would be cheaper if I bought the TVandNav2Go box myself, and brought it into the shop?

it might be, and also if you had thetime, you go do it ur self saving even more money. There are a few Do-It-Yourself threads on it in this section and in the 3G garage.

AK,

I'm considering adding a backup camera as well. What shop are you getting that estimate from?

Dom, Mr. TVandNav2Go, gave me a quote over the phone of $699 for a Backup Camera Only system installed .... including parts, labor, and materials if done at his shop in Brooklyn.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm new around here. Under what conditions could an installation of a reverse camera, or video unit into my '06 TL void out the warranties that come with the car?

Thanks

If you splice into stock wires is one.

Is that a continuous harness that you splice into, or is it a smaller harness which just goes between the nav and lines leading up to the monitor? I.E, is a it a 12 inch section of harness that can be purchased seperatly from the dealer if it got messed up?

Again. Sorry for the dumb questions here, but...Let's assume that I had an after-market Reverse camera installed, and lets further assume that the installers spliced into stock wires to do that installation. That would, in fact, be grounds to void out a warranty on me, yes?

Your dealer may definitely refuse warranty however,,,,, if you can prove your mod/install had nothing to do with whatever the damage/warranty claim is for, the "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act" should cover you.

I for one spliced into the harness on both the Nav and XM (soldiered in my own harnesses etc..). My entire install with Dom's box, hi res 150 degree view Sony CCD camera, aux audio input, and associated switching for DVD etc. was less than $400. Professionally installed by myself.

When it comes to mods and new cars you have to assume some risk.

Have fun

Thanks for the info on the Warranty act, appreciate the insight. I'm a new TL owner. I haven't done any mods to the car as yet, at this point I am just weighing the risk v. rewards.

Thanks again

Another Install Quote Request

I'm also looking to get a quote for a rear install camera on my new (2 weeks) 2006 TL with Nav. I'm located in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.

I have researched alot on this forum, and am going to check out sounds-good-stereo.com for a quote, but would appreciate any other suggestions.

I know there are a lot of somewhat easy DIY instructions here, but I just am just not comfortable doing it myself as I have never performed anything like this before.

I'm more than willing to purchase the required parts such as Wendy's tiny backup camera, but I really want a clean installation, which I wouldn't consider myself capable of.

Thanks for any help in advance!

to be honest i did not ask just yet since i was not ready for it along with the dvd install etc.. i just told and showed him the install info and he said, yah i can do it. I know for sure for the camera, dvd etc he said it will take mostly all day.. The price they charge are 'fair' not free, and not over priced... Whenever i ask them a price and they tell it to me im like sounds fair...
hehe

Acututaly, there is a few device that you can use intead of slpice many wires. Doms unit has also a PNP version, plugn play. Then for the sound, you can use PIE X3 or Blitzsafe or even an FM modulator. They only wire to be tapped would be the ground wires, and the power wires. The rest is plug and play, so you can even remove it when you send it in to the dealerhsip for warrenty work reguarding any electronics.

BTW, DO NOT TAP INTO THE NAVI DRIVE POWER WIRE, RUN A NEW ONE FROM THE CIG LITER OR FROM THE FUSE BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here is an exact link for the device for sound that woulds seamlsly with the navi, also ipod can be controled form steering wheel.

To everyone that want to install the rear camera.

I have the NAV2GO unit and PnP cable for sale; I bought it, but never installed it. I am selling both for $175 shipped.

You can find the pictures here -

And for anyone considering video, consider the MG25 as an alternative. DVD just seems so clumsy now adays. What is all the rage now? Digital music with access to thousands of songs via something like the ipod without having to deal with tons of physical discs. Why not do the same for DVD. The converting movies can be a bit of a pain, but worth it (I have 80-90 movies on mine) or you can just easily make perfect ISOs of your DVDs and get 15-20 on the drive (depending on movie size and HD size).

The option is a little more expensive but WELL worth it in my opinion.

Does anyone know any good shops in Orlando, FL? Ducati, The store was on colonial and alafaya, but i cant recall the name. They gave me a quate of 1050+tax, which seemed ridiculouse to me. If i had That much I would buy rims (KONIG UNKOWNS)

Dom's price of $699 is very fair. I wouldn't do it for less than $600-700 either.

Sorry to thread-jack, but i have a question on teh TVandNav2Go unit. Instead of buying a PieX3 or whatever, could i use a Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty, as my Input for sound? So i dont have to use a RF modulator, and keep really good sound quality?

Why so expensive

Can anyone please explain me why the effin 2x1 video switch is so damn expensive? You can solder one yourself and it'll cost you at most $5.

Here, read this maxim propaganda, for example:

Supply and demand.... Not to many folks will go through the trouble let alone understand the terms/schematics.. $125 is nothing for a quick and easy install for aux video with backup camera ops etc.. However, paying an additional $100 for a simple wiring harness for PnP,,,, that even I couldn't justify. Now the audio side (aux-in using XM)was a no brainer for me.. $15 bucks of Radio Shack stuff and I was up and running with home-built PnP.. No issues.

Next step - your NAG hack. But I admit I currently don't have my mind/hands around the entire process....

Thanks AD

What did you do for the audio KJ? I tried using a 4PDT relay for the audio, and the XM bled through when switched to DVD
