Radio and Hands Free Glitch

So I am not sure what happened but when I tried to answer an incoming call by pressing the talk button on the steering wheel, my radio and hands free link had a glitch or something and locked up. I am not sure what the booting up sequence really does but it did not help.

My radio was a long period was locked in the phone mode. I turned off my bluetooth signal from my phone but it would not go off the phone mode. I disconnected the radio fuse and the backup fuse and after entering the code, my radio will not turn on at all but still detects a phone while showing several service bars.

Is there a fix or is this a dealer issue? Please help because I can't live without a radio etc.

same issue

I had the same thing happen to me today. I've also noticed that the display panel says "in use" even when the car has been off. I found some information in the "problems and fixes" section of this forum:

I'm taking mine back to the dealer. It's definitely frustrating to drive my hour commute without a radio. :-(

3G '04 TL for me. I took mine in and they replace the steering wheel buttons of the HFL. Weird thing that happened was that initially it didn't work and I also noticed the vanity lights not fuctioning either. After 5 minutes though everything worked out fine. It sucks because there is nothing more furstrating than taking a car in for repairs and the service tech cannot replicate the problem.

Then this is the thread for both of you: If you have a 2004 TL, Upgrade your HFL!

Good luck!

I will mention in passing that if the HFL is connected to the phone when you turn the key off, it will stay connected for a while afterwards.

It happened to me at a gas station. I went to fill up with the phone in my pocket when I heard a noise coming from the inside of the car. It was an incoming call, but I was outside the car and could not answer. This surprised me since the car was turned off while I was filling it.

That is not a glitch but rather a feature of the system. It allows you to continue your conversation after you have parked. Within those few minutes, you can complete your call or transfer the sound from the HFL to your cell via the voice command "transfer."

I had something similar the other day. I'd parked the car, gone inside a building and my phone rang. Only, when I tried to pick-up it was still trying to use the HFL in the car parked outside.

Like the old joke from years ago, when mobile phones were mostly found in cars:
I got a car phone. Now, when it rings, I gotta go to the garage.

The flip side is, you can have your phone on in your house, go to your car and make a call.

Now all they need is a car-phone which doesn't turn its users into dazed zombies when used. Not so bad for car drivers, but scary when they're driving large SUVs.

Update on my situation: I didn't use my car the day after the HFL locked up. When I went to start it the next day, it struggled a couple of seconds like the battery was dying, and then started, resetting the HFL system. The radio now works. Admittedly, I have not tried the HFL system for fear of it locking up again, but everything else is working normally.

In response to the later posts, my phone automatically disconnects from the HFL when I am a certain distance from the car.
