Radar Hardwire Tap Location

Radar Hardwire Tap Location
I am looking to locate a hot wire that only turns on when the car is on or in other words a cable that is hot when the key is in "accessory 1" near where it ties into the fuse box.
I want to tap into it to power my radar detector. I would really appreciate a picture pointing to the cable if anyone can help me.

I'll take some pix tomorrow if you need, but I didn't t tap anything. I just got some 24 or 28 gauge wire that's made up of several really fine wires (as opposed to a solid wire) which I flattened a bit, then I pulled the fuse out that I wanted crammed that wire in there and jammed the fuse back ontop of it. Then with that short 24-28 gauge wire I hooked it up to my hardwire kitt that came with my V1. I snaked the v1 wire around the edge of the dash by he driver door up the pillars by the windshield. (I didn't remove anything just pushed it with in with my business card) same thing along the roof line against the windshield did 1 loop around the center mirror ( just incase the suction cups give up) and that's it.
Let me know if you want some pix.

Not sure where you want to mount your detector, but I hard wired to the overhead console lights via the invisicord.

There are some threads with pics somewhere around here. Maybe in the Garage, I've forgotten where they are.

Do it the right way and get a mini fuse Add-A-Fuse connector from Advance Auto or AutoZone type places. It allows you to pull any stock fuse and add another fused circuit right at the fuse box.
I believe it is socket #31 or 32 on the interior fusebox that is the accessory socket you want (hot with key in I position).
Running the wire to the detector is probably the most difficult part of this---and its not that bad.
Let me know if you need more info or pics.

Ugh---no. Please don't tap your power like this.

If your looking to tap a wire take a look at this thread.

The other easier solution is to buy an Invisicord and tap into the dimming mirror plug on the top console where the map lights are. Do a search on Invisicord and you'll get some good information on that option. I believe a cord runs about $12. I have had mine for 2+ years and it works great! This is a great option when mounting the detector high like in the pictures above.
