Question about navi conversion.

Hey I found a navi I just need to remove it out of the car. My questions are do I need the radio that came in that car with nav. Or can I use my radio that came with my car non-nav? Also can I just cut the harness right behind the connectors of the sub screen and navi screen itself and than use custom wires to lengthen it after?

You can use the same HU. But do you realize that you need the navi unit in the trunk along with a boat load of wiring going from the trunk to the center console, upper console and steering wheel? Do a search on some of the install threads here.

Yes I know all the components that come with the navi. I'm just Wondering can I just cut the harness right behind the connectors of each component and just match up the wires later with some custom wires. Instead of tearing the whole car apart.

Sure you could, but why? The harness is the biggest part of doing the conversion. If you have access to the factory harness, I would take the time to remove it intact.

Basically all I need is

.navi screen
.sub screen
.dvd unit
.anntena
. Steering wheel button
. Harness.

Than it's just plug and play correct? Or is there any custom work I need to Do?

The wiring to support it is not there if you have a non-navi TL.

What do you mean? I know the harness isn't there. But apart from the harness I need extra wiring? For what purpose?

Just buy the harness from Martin on ebay and you'll have all the wires you need.

I'll bow out at this point. I don't understand what you're doing.

If he has access to the harness, why buy it or fab one up by hand?

If you can grab the whole harness from the car I would take it, unless you have the money to spend on Martin's Harness. I didn't have the opportunity to get he factory harness when i did my conversion so I had to go with Martin's harness.

^^^^ wow that just scared me.

Okay so if I get the harness is there anything else I need? Besides of coarse the navi screen, DVD/computer brain, subscreen, antenna and steering wheel button and nav disc.

My point exactly. I built the entire harness myself using the splice method and although it worked, having the factory harness would be the best.
