Question about a bad installation I just had done

I just had my sound system installed and today as I was driving I noticed I could not use the stock navigation screen anymore. Usually when I turn on the car if I want to use it, I can push the OK button and use the factory navigation and whatnot. The touchscreen does not recognize when I push the screen anymore. The display above the screen no longer shows what CD you are playing or the track. All the display shows now is the temperature and the fan strength of the air. I'm just wondering if anyone has had this same problem and knows if its an easy fix. Thank you very much

hmm, sounds like they cut a harness or left one loose for the navi screen. what type of system did you have put in?

Well I had them replace all four speakers and put in two subs and three amps and a cap. Also what I just noticed is when i push the power button on the stock deck to turn off the cd player, there is a light continuous hissing sound that comes from the speakers. Im pretty pissed at the shitty job they did and I was just hoping someone knew if all this was fixable.

Why not take it back and tell them to fix what they broke? You didn't pay them to break anything.

Take it back. None of that is normal. It should not be something you have to live with.

Like everyone said... Go back and ask them to fix it...

What OEM integration device did they use in your install???

Alright, I just went back and it turned out one of the wires for the navigation was loose so he sautered it and fixed it. As far as the noise the speakers make when the player is off. He said thats pretty much going to happen when you use the factory deck with the setup.......Hearing what you guys are saying that is not normal. I figured as much. Peripheral PCH8 might be the thing you are asking about ^^^^ But yea, I think I should take it to a different car audio place and see if they can fix that constant hissing sound coming from the speakers when they arent even being used.

The hissing could be a number of things. What is the quality of the RCA cables going into the amp? Are they coming in contact with any power/ground wires? If so, move them away. This could cause noise.

You could also do some troubleshooting of your own to help determine where the hissing is coming from. Try doing these things one at a time until the hiss goes away:

Turn the gain all the way down on the amp(s), remove the RCA cables from the amp input, remove the speaker out wires from the factory amp to the input of the audio processor or LOC.

When the hiss goes away, you just found the cause.

Thanks for the troubleshooting advice. I'll try that. He said he used the biggest gauge wire they had for the amps. I saw it and it looks legit. Thanks for your help

I did what you said and I unplugged the rear input seclection RCA cables from the amp that powers the speakers. After I did that the hissing sound almost completely went away... There was still a small minor hissing from the front speakers so I unplugged the front input selection RCA cables but that didn't do anything. What's the next step?

I started messing with other stuff as well. I don't know much about what the buttons do but when I turned the input voltage to low on the amp that was powering the speakers, the hissing got louder vs. having it on high. Not sure what that means but something else I noticed.

don't do that with the system running (music) or you'll fry the amp. What the installer did was tap after the factory amp and take the amplified signal to the aftermarket amps. This way you get less cuts and interference. Your best bet is to have them check the remote turn on to make it manual or have the signal sensing re-checked.

there are so many more things to trouble shoot this.....jsut start with the basic ones liek the guys mentioned first.....hopefully one of those things correctes the problem. my initial thought on it was bad amp....either low quality or just a bad amp. can u tell us the equipment u used??? u didnt list that. a bad ground can make the noise occur as well.....but that would be more of a whining up n down with the RPM of the motor

I'm guessing either low quality RCA cables or inexpensive amp. Either way, make sure you keep power wires away from speaker wires/RCA cables.

Post up what you got in the trunk...

I am running 2 1/1000 JL amps. One for each sub. The subs are two 12 IDMAX Image Dynamics subs. I have all component JL speakers and a 500/4 JL amp for the speakers. Also I have a Tsunami CAP 40. and a yellow top. I hope its not the amps. I dont think its the amps because he knew about the hissing sound and seemed to think its normal going off the factory deck. Im hoping its a bad RCA cable because it stopped when I unplugged the RCA rear input cables. Im gonna take it to a different shop when I get back to San Diego.

Well it's not the amps... Those are good quality amps. I wouldn't have gotten the cap though. The Yellow Top is enough by itself.

Don't skimp on the RCA cables. Depending on the length you need, expect to pay up to $50 per cable. I like the Kicker RCA cables. They are good quality and reasonably priced. I have them and my noise floor is very low.

Edit: Forgot to mention, keeping the factory amp will cause some hiss, so you're never going to get it perfectly quiet. If it bothers you, have a switch installed on the remote wire. Only problem with this is, if it's off then you won't hear anything on the HFL.

Another thing I just noticed was that the way he stacked the amps isnt very good. I took a feel after driving around for around an hour, and playing at a pretty low level. He has the three amps stacked with about an inch of clearance in between all of them. The amp powering the speakers is on the very bottom and is very warm. I looked at the thermal light and it was on including the low ampuels light? Its amber and says it can be on when there is a short circuit in the wiring. Also someone mentioned earlier about when driving you might hear noises and it might determine what it is. When I drive and hit little bumps with no music on, there is a light squeak noise that comes from the speakers. Im kind debating weather or not to unplug the bottom amp so it doesnt overheat and take damage.

if you have not fixed this problem yets you don't need a remote wire for those jl amps
make sure they don't uses them and have the switch that make them not need one is on. I would think its the rca or if the rca are runnning beside the power wire, same with the speaker wire.
I have used allot of line level adapters and have never had hiss sound in the speakers
