Question about 2005 Navi System

I keep hearing that the Navi system in the 3rd Gen TL is not as sophisticated as the ones in some other Acura or Honda vehicles, if that is the case is it something that could be fixed in the future by Acura through a simple software (DVD) update or are those systems better in terms of hardware?

I hear they are better in hardware (more memory, faster processor, etc)

Some of features must be possible though. (On-screen trip computer?)

I was thinking more like in terms of adding capabilities like Zagat's, I'm not too concerned about stuff like resolution or CPU speed, those are fine in my opinion

I'm sure Acura would have added the Zagat survey on the new version 3.50 disc if it was possible. I think those extra features on the 4th-generation navigation system require more memory & the faster CPU. A few days ago, I took a look at the 2006 Accord EX-V6 with the new navigation system. The resolution of the screen looked sharper/brighter than the TL's display and all of the new features (except NavTraffic) were there.

Hmm you might be right, does the 2006 TL have the 4th generation navi or is it still 3rd?

The 06 TL still has the 3rd-gen navi.

Still 3rd, unlike all the rest of the Honda products including the Civic.

In a twisted way I think that is comforting to learn, because I just bought a 2005 TL and would have kicked myself if the 2006 had a better Navi, as that is my favorite feature of the car (it is the main reason I chose it over other brands like Infiniti)

there must be a reason for them not putting it in the 06 TLs. and in case, for the meantime, be happy with what you have people.

They're saving it for the MMC next year, that's the reason. Anyway, even the 3rd-gen navi on the TL is better than what you get on the G35. No touch-screen, no voice recognition and your front-passenger can't use it while you're driving.
