Navi DVD $185!

I was thinking of updating my '04 navi DVD (website says it will be available 10/05) and they charge $185 for them. What a ripoff!

this will be a major update though. i normally won't update to letters unless its a big change in the software, other than that its just updated POI's.....but ill update with numbers...thus its going to be 4.0

The website says it will be version 3.50 that's coming in October.

Does anyone know if v. 3.5 will have the new voice commands that the TSX has? Like several hundred more than the current TL?

Xpditor,

im not sure about the new navigation features. on the site on the left column, it says

Product Highlights:
This year's update includes updated points of interest (POI) and map coverage. There are no additional navigation features.

im not sure if thats talking about the new DVD or the current DVD

Whats next for the TSX. DVD AUDIO. I sold my TSX in May of this year and bought a 2005 TL. Now it seems like acura is giving the tsx everything. Whats up with that. They should do more for the TL. At least the zagot guide for the navi should go to the TL before the tsx. Just look at the average age of people who buy the tl. Probably more who care about good restaurants than a tsx driver who wants to know more about the nearest bk.

I'd really like to know if we get the zagat reviews on the newest disc, too. I was annoyed when I saw we didn't have that after seeing it on the acura web site and thinking it was cool.

Also, the new Navi software is supposed to have 3D intersection displays for on/off ramps.

We have something like 200 voice commands and the TSX has like 500.

Couldn't we just upgrade through that memory slot in the DVD player in the trunk?

Zagat Survey is a review guide of dining, hotels, nightspots and attractions which is very handy when visiting cities across the country. I use to use their guide on my PocketPC and found it handy when looking for favored/recommended dining spots. Check out the link for more details.

Like the turn signal mirrors !

It seems Acura is giving more features to the models BOTH above and below.

A quick analysis of this leads me to believe that it's because the TL is outselling the other two by quite a bit... irresponsible to neglect the leader to balance out the other models, but they may be doing it, who knows.

I for one think turn signals on mirrors are fugly. especially the RL, ugh... ugliest mirrors ever. Still, some people like that.

The looks of turn signal mirrors are not the issue here!

They're a safety issue as they may be the only way some other drivers could see your intentions to turn or change lanes on today's heavily congested roads and/or in heavy traffic situations.

Unless I'm completely out of the loop . . . that won't help any. I don't think anyone has been able to successfully backup their Nav DVD. But then again, I haven't checked the backup your nav cd thread lately.

I find this is definitely possible idea. I am also experimenting with dual layer DVDs to C-aPee them. Oh did I say that?

New TL in what, 3 years now, so they won't be doing any major changes to this one. I would like, however, to have voice recognition, have it spell out the address, that would be the most useful feature they could put in our TL.

its not possible, it was possible to take the trip computer because the car's computer would transmit certain information like MPG and miles and other things such as this, and we use it in the MID. the trip computer is basically an interface. i think it would be possible to get the zagats interface but it wouldn't have any information to transmit from. so it would be a blank zagats guide

Well it be one good thing to have, but at the least they have to clean up the restaurants that are in there. I hit a string of about 5-6 from the list using my current vicinity that just were not there. And the zagats would be great cause when I finally hit number 7 - it sucked.

I haven't seen how the Zagat info is handled on the RL and TSX, but it seems it would be very easy for them to add to the TL's updated DVD. Even just adding asterisks in the restaurant name would require no additional software changes.

Do the TSX and RL systems allow you to search or sort according to the Zagat info? For instance, "Find nearest four-star Italian restaurant."

I just found that TL is only car to use Orange DVD as of 2006. TSX used to be orange DVD and now uses white with upgraded features. new RL used white dvd and MDX uses white dvd starting 2005.

I suddenly feel like TL's navi is inferior?

If you want new features, you'll have to get one of the following vehicles :

2005/06 MDX
2006 RL
2007 TL (MMC next year, 2006 TL is stuck with slower 3rd-gen navi)
2006 TSX
2006 RSX
2006 Accord
2006 Pilot
2006 Ridgeline
2006 Odyssey
2006 Civic

No new features / limited map coverage for current TL owners. Doesn't it suck that Accord owners now have something else that TL owners don't have besides the integrated keyfob & trip computer: 4th-gen navi with faster processor, new features & better map coverage.

One more thing about the navi screen on the 06 Accord, the resolution appears to be better than the screen on the TL. The MDX also has better resolution.

I'm thinking the same. Since the Mic and other stuff is the same and its just the unit which has a faster processer, then just swapping them when the new one is available should be able to fix this....

Or I dont know. But I'm hoping this is the case.
