Problem with Cirlinca DVD-A solo. HELP!

When I choose an MP3 into a project it is showing that the MP3 takes up like 10 times the actually size of the MP3.

So an album I have that is 106 MB is taking up 880 MB of space on the DVD.

Anyone know what the hell is going on.

Hello Evan,

This is because the mandatory encoding formats supported by DVD-Audio are LPCM (linear PCM, similar to a basic WAV file) and PPCM (Packed PCM, a.k.a MLP, which compresses by about 50%). The standard also allows for lossy compressed AAC encoding but it is optional and I am not sure many players support it. Mp3 is not mandated. So to make sure the disc plays in all players, DVD-Audio Solo uncompress the mp3 file to LPCM, which explains the 10 factor. Hope this helps.

SWEET thanks for the response. So what format would i need to convert my mp3's too in order to bypass this uncompression, or is it unavoidable.

Excellent ! Cirlinca's looking in on us. That's a good thing.

Welcome Chris. Hopefully you'll be able to participate in DVDA threads in general but I'll understand if Cirlinca limits your participation to only commenting on your products or prefers that product questions be routed directly to Cirlinca rather than via public BBS.

How about sound quality, do you think the sound quality is going to be the same as when I burn one album on a DVD, seeing as this way will probably give me 5-10 albums of the same bitrate/freq

It really doesn't matter. Either way they will be uncompressed to the about the same size. When you convert mp3 to wav the wav files will be much bigger than the original mp3. As Chris said, a WAV is very similar to the linear PCM that Solo creates from your mp3s

The sound quality will be about the same as the sound quality of the mp3 files. Encoding them on a DVD-A won't make them sound better. Best to start with a high quality source file rather than mp3s if you can. Making a DVD-A of mp3s like putting lipstick on a pig (unless you are doing it to get more songs in the car)

When I use cirlinca and use the enhancing i am able to fit about one album on a disc. Maybe I am nuts but I think the sound quality was better with the DVD-A then through the AUX jack. espcecially the bass, and its also nice when you get a call the disc stops and holds your place with AUX jack you have to stop the music yourself.

I will continue to use both the AUX jack and make some DVD-A's for those particular albums that I really enjoy listening too

Why do you think the sound is better? Is the AUX jack in 07's not good? Because I always have to turn the volume way up on the iPod or Stereo in the car??

I say there is little noticeable sound increase if you are using the Cirlinca upsampling. If you turn that off you should be able to fit about 6 to 8 CDs on one single layer DVDA.

My iPod is plenty loud when I use its docking connector's audio output. I have a BlitzSafe aux in adaptor since my car is an 05. It uses the docking connector (which is the "right way"). Using the head phone out on an iPod does work but I have noticed lower volume levels for sure when it is plugged into other audio euipment. You might try one of those belkin adaptors that uses the docking connector and charges the iPod as well in the car.
