Playing iPhone Through iSimple
Playing iPhone Through iSimple
I know vie seen threads addressing this before, but I can't find them right now. I bought my TL with an iPod adaptor already I stalled by the previous owner. My local Best Buy guy says it is an iSimple, though the connecting wire just says "peripheral".
When I tried to play from my iPhone, though, it wouldn't, saying that it was not compatible. I bought a scosche adapter from Fry's, and it plays just fine and even allows me to control playback from the steering wheel, but it still says that the device was not made for the iphone and encourages me to enter airplane mode. I can still make calls with the phone plugged in to the iSimple, but Ive experienced some dropping and my wife tells me that she has tried to call a couple times and hasn't been able to get through. (some may argue that this should be considered a feature...)
My question is: is there a way to play my iphone through the iSimple and have it not drop calls? Bear in mind that I am about as far from a DIY guy as you can get, so speak in non-jargon for us simpletons, please.

Haven't experienced dropped calls with mine, and yes, it will give the annoying prompt about not being compatible when connected. I usually skip it and it still works fine. Just out of curiosity, have you tried updating the firmware on the iSimple and the iPhone OS?
you update the isimple firmware at the isimple unit which is hidden somewhere inside your car. which u will need to take out.
the module accept a mini usb port where you will plug that into the computer and update the firmware.

Thanks for the info everybody. I stopped by Best Buy and they told me that for "about 60 bucks" they could take it out, update the firmware and put it together again. Does this seem like a reasonable price?
And I am about as far from a DIY guy as you will get, so me taking the dash apart just ain't gonna happen.

Somehow i doubt your dropped calls issue is with your stereo. Do you have tint on your car? Some tints contain metallics that interfere with cell phones. Also, At&t network is known to have alot of dropped calls regardless of what they say. Or at least my friends and I experience it a lot of our iPhones.
