I guess that I should add to that... Another product that Autotoys has on tap is from AXXESS which is a Metra company. It seems a bit less complicated and more useful. Similar to the DICE adapter. I've had BAD experiences with the Peripheral pieces. I'll be watching these closely and hopefully we can work out some type of AZ pricing or group buy with the best product. DICE still seems to be ahead of the game on all this. They have good stuff in the works for us.

Do you have Navi, and if so, are you able to 'call' from the navi address book/destination button? With the Dice, to eliminate the overlay of XM text and IP text I had to unplug the XM module in the trunk, this broke bluetooth dialing from Navi.

Thanks!

Hey 2008 Acura TL,

Did your Navi GUI scroll the text of the songs on XM before you installed this?
Or was it a result of installing this?

Have it installed in 2004 TL NAVI. Works great in Aux1 mode (direct control from the iPod) - the sound is great.

However I have some issue with IPOD mode (the one which shows text info and allows you to control iPod from headunit). I have 160Gb Classic and it gradualy gets filled with music. The PXAMG worked fine in IPOD mode untill I had about 10,000 tunes loaded on the iPod. However it does not work now after I loaded the rest of my collection (20,000 tracks). The unit constantly switches between "IPOD CONNECTED" and "IPOD DISCONNECTED" messages and never stays connected. It still works great in Aux1 mode, though, so this is not a showstopper.

Periperal Electronics customer support did not help yet. They were fast to response (good thing!), however so far they only suggested common troubleshooting steps (upgrade iPod firwmare, reset iPod, check cables etc) which of course, did not help. I am still waiting from them. Replacing the unit also did not help.

In short, it is great unit. It works great with moderate size music collections, so probably all flash memory based iPods will not have the issue I have. I realy hope the Peripheral will fix the issue in the next firmware release, which will make already great product perfect.

Another thing is that the unit will not show any non-english characters on the display. However that is expectable - most probably this is limitation of the Acura headunit or XM radio protocol and not the PXAMG itself.

"iPod Not Connected"

I am having the same problem as avlcat. I just installed the Peripheral PXAMG in my 04 TL last night and it is constantly switching from "iPod Connected' to 'No iPod Connected' and pausing the iPod. I have the iPod Touch. Please let me know what Peripheral says. The only thing on their site says that if this is happening, the wire is not connected, but it for sure is. Thanks.

I'm torn...I just bought the Dice Silverline R4 unit. I like the fact that I can keep my XM text with the PXAMG...If you had to do it all over again, which one would you use?

I want to get video from my iPod mainly.

Thanks.

I use an iPhone with this and it seems to connect just fine. I do not like the slightly wonky control of the unit, but i would definitely get it over getting a dice any day. Ebay or toss the dice.

So does this replace the factory XM tuner? And add iPod and potentially HD Radio? Or does it integrate WITH the factory XM tuner and add iPod and HD Radio? I'm confused! :-)

It does NOT integrate with XM.
It's pretty neat how it works.
When you switch to XM (i.e. press the XM button), you turn the right-hand side dial and select between XM, IPOD, AUX, HD_RADIO and AUX2.

Ok so if you have to navigate through the iPod, like select specific playlists, you still have to navigate it through the ipod itself right? Also is this video capable if I had videos on my iPod?

Can someone please summarize all of what's been said here?
I have an '05 w/ Navi. Will the Peripheral kit
1. Disrupt my XM radio whatsoever, including text?
2. Allow me to view and play artists and playlists through the audio controls
3. Disrupt dialing from the Navigation unit?
4. Has anyone tried the ELKTECH or PAC units on Ebay?

1. No. (Your XM will perform exactly as if you had no Peripheral unit installed)
2. Yes.
3. No.
4. Yes, I purchased my PAC + HD unit from eBay.

You navigate artists, albums, playlists, songs, etc. direcly through the radio unit, not through the ipod. Also, the ipod charges while plugged into the Peripheral.
It is not video capable.

So what do you think about the PAC unit, and how does it stack up compared to the one being discussed in this thread?

Also, did you install it yourself?

Crap, I'm sorry.
I have my acryonms messed up.
I bought the Peripheral PXAMG + HDRT from eBay.
I have no experience with PAC or PIE. I did buy the HD Dice, but returned it without installing it because I heard bad things about it.

Fellow board member (jptl04) helped me install it.

After reading all the info on the other thread on this topic, I actually ordered the PXAMG from Ebay. I'll have it in by this weekend, I'll update then.

How did you guys get the console dis-assembled? Any resources out there on the web for how to install this bad boy? I have nothing to do this afternoon and I'm feeling ambitious.

A short update on the issue with IPOD mode. It seems the problem was in the Windows program I used to load the music onto my iPod. I initially used JRiver MediaCenter instead of iTunes (actually I like it much more than iTunes - it is much faster and easier to use). I decided to switch to iTunes to verify if it might have caused the issue - and that helped. When I resynced the whole iPod with iTuned the PXAMG problem disappeared.

Got my PXAMG here in my hand...I'm looking for a "add-a-fuse" that will fit our smaller fuses though...Anyone know where I can get them online? I've already checked Radio Shack and Autozone...

Thanks.

Edit: Is this the right one??

Cool, thanks for the useful post. The reason I want to do this is to keep from having to tap the power from the cig liter in the center console.

If you have it in your hands, you would see in the installation manual that you use the included media harness to piggyback onto the OEM Headunit which will provide power to the unit. You did get the harness with your PXAMG, right?
Works kinda like this:
Before: OEM wire harness ----> HU
After: OEM wire harness ----> PXAMG -------> Media harness -----> HU

I was wondering the same thing.. I have this unit and it was as simple as plugging it in.. did not have to tap power... If you didnt get the Acura harness with yours let me know.. i think i have an extra in the garage(from my first unit that was bad).. i can look and send it to you if you need it...

okay, it's hard to tell what your expertise level is, but the unit is self powered using the harnesses. You just need the pxamg and the special harness...and that is it! I think the other posters got you pointed in the right direction.

from ur post i couldn't tell if you are like some electronics freak that loves fuses in everything and were adding a line or something...

and YOU'RE WELCOME and happy times with the peripheral thingie!!!

eh, sorry I did not clarify very well...I'm installing the DICE unit along with a AV Electronics navi converter...it's the navi converter I need power for...

Actually, I'm thinking about pulling it from the stock XM box power wire since I have it unhooked...Anyone know which wire / pin is the hot lead on the factory XM harness?

Thanks!

Edit...oh, I need a switch, so it's dumb to do that...I wanted to go from the fuse box in the front so it was close to the switch in the dash and then run from there to the back...

I'll figure out something...

Thank you! I downloaded a DIY PDF someone created, and got it in this weekend. This unit works AWESOME and I am amazed at how much better the sound is than any other Ipod interface (mainly FM Modulation) I've ever used or heard before.

I have an '05 w/ Navi and I'm having no problems. Highly recommend this unit!
