Part 2: Concealed Radar/Laser Block Install

Here are some updated pic’s of my “concealed” Escort Passport SR7 plus install. I am committed to having the inside of my vehicle look completely stock to the casual observer. Hence, no extra cords, things hanging from the window, etc… So, I asked the guys at Pacific Audio to make the Concealed Radar/Laser unit as concealed as possible. They did an excellent job…what do you think?

Alex, at Pacific Audio, spent a few hours and a few beers getting the mute/laser block disengage button looking and set-up perfectly.

In addition to concealing the mute/laser block disengage button, he took apart the radar LED Display and concealed it in the speedometer. The pic is a little fuzzy, but you get the idea.

Another custom mod made was to hollow out the underside of the Acura emblem to install the radar detection unit.

Then the front laser block modules were installed in the front grills

If you don't mind me asking, how much does an install like that go for?

Nice, I like the remote display mount and the laser disarm button. Clean install.

I ended up going a little more stealth with mine. A single remote LED behind the plexiglass next to the clock that's dark by default and blinks red when it detects. The mute/disarm button is right behind the shifter between the seat heater buttons.

You can see the LED at the top of the picture blinking red. Don't know why you can't see the clock, guess my phone camera isn't that good.

Here's the mute/disarm button.

He installed it as part of a total audio upgrade...all Zapco components. So, everything was packaged together, don't know exactly what the radar install breakdown was....the button itself took a lot of time and talent.

Here's the mute/disarm button.

Very stealthy...like it a lot Like the location of the mute/disarm, very easily accessible. The single LED is way cool too...although, eyesight being as it is, think I need the extra display size. What system do you have?

Thx. Yeah, the mute button is easy to hit and I think I'm less prone to getting distracted at high speed when hitting the button the way it's setup. The LED isn't as bright during the day, but I find I go more by sound anyways (speaker is installed in center channel location) but everyone's got thier own preferences. System is a BEL RX75 Plus. Basically the same as a SR7.

Yes, one of the companies is in Australia and the other in Europe somewhere. I tried finding the test results I read about them, couldn't find it. But, if yours has been working...then you must have the good one.

I'm actually consider the Bel RX75 Plus as well. How do you like it? Saw one review that put it up there (equivalent to an 8500 + zr3)

Has anybody else used the BEL or have any feedback on it?

cool but unnecessary to cut apart your grill for the radar detection unit, it can work through plastic. it's just the laser shifter that cannot be blocked.

Wow...
Super clean install. Way overkill, but that what being a car enthusiast is about. No way am I hacking up my gauge cluster to put that LCD in there, to me, that looks a bit "off", but other than that, it looks like a great install.

I've had that on my cars for about 4 years, very effective. I've probably gotten more looks on that thing then anything else.

Yeah, it was way overboard...but I love it!! It works great!!! I needed the LED to be very visible. I have an insane audio system that overpowers the "beep, beep" that comes from the detector...so, the LED going nuts alerts me way before I would ever hear the "beep". I'll get a shot of it during the day for a different perspective...If I had to do it all over again the only thing I would change is the location of the mute/laser block disable button...I would put it in the center console between the seat heater switches. That would be more convenient. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.

Been away from the boards for a while. The BEL is nice ... haven't gotten a ticket since I installed it. Range is great and if you're looking for a stealth install I'd highly recommend.

Are you using the photo lazer combo one? I ended up going with the lazer only one since they don't use photo in WA and it looked like the photo one would get too much attention.
