Overly sensitive Nav joystick

Just picked up our new '06 TL with navi yesterday. One minor issue is the joystick seems way too sensitive. While scrolling around in the map, the system frequently picks up joystick movements as joystick presses (pushing the joystick in) even though we are very carefully just trying to move it left, right, up or down. Then, of course, the system stalls while it looks up the address of the current cursor location.

Anyone else notice this issue? Perhaps we have a faulty controller.

I agree....

And forget trying to use it to pinpoint somewhere on the map. You will overshoot it everytime. And if the car is in motion, you would have better luck performing a circimcision while driving a cobblestone street. (wasn't that an old Lincoln commercial???)

Frankly though, I rarely use it. Between the touch screen and voice commands, the cursor is redundant for almost all functions.

My TL Navi joystick seems to work fine, but using fingertips on the touch screen is faster.
Other forum members put on screen covers, etc., but the Navi screen cleans up easily (and without scratches) with just a damp towel if fingerprint smudges start to show.

But if you want to scroll to one of the restaurant icons on the screen, and find out it's name, how do you do that without the joystick?

You have to use the joystick for that. I suggest placing your finger above the joystick and "pulling" down rather than putting your finger right in the center of it.

There are up and down arrows on the touch screen when a list is displayed. You can also use the ZOOM button to toggle / scroll up and down. I am unsure if there are redundant voice commands to scroll a list as well...need to check the voice command section of the manual.

Scrolling has not been an issue for me with the cursor. Try bumping the cursor knob up and down to scroll without placing your finger in the indentation of the knob. That is where you are likley to trigger the cursor to select instead of scroll.

I have tried bumping the joystick from the sides, but it still sometimes picks up the movements as a "button press". I have a service appt coming up so I will have them look at it.
