Non Navi vs. Navi...
Perspective TL buyer looking for a listing of differences in NAVI vs Non Navi TL's.
Mainly- What features are dependant upon the NAVI besides NAVI?
i.e. Bluetooth, are all audio controls / display info shown without the NAVI screen? Etc...
I do not believe I would get 2k out of the pure NAVI functionality- however want to understand what else I loose. (nothing against those who have it- Just trying to justify it)
Appreciate it.

This is pure aesthetics but I personally think the panel looks much nicer and sophisticated with NAVI than without
Another unquantifiable advantage is the "wow" factor that you get from people seeing the Navi or HFL in action

A little bit of HFL - you can select a point and hit "send" to dial the number instead of trying to make HFL listen your voice.
Air conditioning - with Navi, car blows more air to where sun is
Audio controls - a great screen to control audio(bass, subwoofer, etc.)
And personally, dash looks 10 times better with screen. Without the screen, I wouldn't of gotten TL. I would of got G35 with Slide up navi.

I really didn't see the need for the Navi either. I test drove a car without it for a weekend and had made up my mind I didn't want it. Never had it in a car before and couldn't see why I would need it now.
Then I made the mistake of taking the wife with me on another test drive in a car WITH Navi, I was hooked. She convinced me to go with it, and I'm sooooo glad that she did. I find myself using it now all the time. Really cool watching yourself cruise down the road on a map in the car.
IMO, get it.

This kind of thread has been beaten into the ground... Plain and simple, get the navigation system. From what I hear (I don't have it) it is well worth it and Acura Navigation is one, if not the best in the industry. I know that the next car that I buy, I will absolutely buy the navigation.

Yes well
I agree- there are many threads with TL owners saying that they love the NAVI- or non NAVI Tlers wishing they had it-
I was specifically looking for the feature function trade offs (i.e. is Bluetooth dependant upon NAVI- I think the answer is no, but you get voice dialing to NAVI destination targets? Stereo controls- they are the same? but you get the graphic touch screen sliders with teh NAVI? iPod Interface to stereo should be the same?)
That sort of thing.
Appreciate the help.

I'm 99% sure they are all Bluetooth irregardless of Navi. I don't know about voice commands over anything though. I don't have non-Navi to test for you. Just spend the extra couple of dollars and you won't have to worry about it.

Get it get it Get It!...
Search these threads and do some serious thinking. After the newness of the car wears off, 4 months or so, what's going to keep it cool longer? First time I took the work gang to a meeting an hour away where we'd never been, we were all convinced. Road closed? Turn where ya can, re-figure. Live mapping is really really all its cracked up to be. I drove three hours away to the Detroit area, where I never go, with NO directions, and would have been lost in the swirl of lanes and exits. Instead I pulled right into the parking garage.
I could go on for three more paragraphs but I won't. I've read the lengthy discussions here amongst people who wind up retrofitting it, or wishing they had the installer capable enough to entrust it to. They wind up spending just as much for the parts and labor as it would have cost new, and in some cases more. In addition to having the interior taken apart and the car unavailable for at least a short time.
It's a no brainer.

Thanks for the feedback folks.
I'll continue reading up on the wealth of TL information here. Hopefully sometime in the near future I'll be able to post a new 6MT...
On to reading about the ipod integration topic... Want it hidden in the glovebox- best possible sound (no tape deck or FM) Discouraged by the reviews of the Music Link and do not want a simple AUX in with control left in the ipod... I found an adapter that does this for my 01 Prelude- works great- disheartened that the availability for the TL seems rather limited. Anyhow off topic for this post- Thanks again.

I actually bought a '06 non-navi TL. They didn't have the color that I wanted in stock with the NAVI so I saved myself the $1500-$2000 so that I could buy rims this summer. If I could do it over, I would probably buy it just for the look and the option to use it but I think it would definitely be a "luxury" spend for me IMO. This is based on my assumption that I would only use the NAVI portion of the car once a month. What I do like is how display looks with the NAVI and how the temp gauge gets moved up to the top by the clock. However it is definitely a hard sell at $2,000 which only gets you about half of that when you sell it. Either way you can't lose with the TL as it is a great car!
FYI - The new '06 TLs have a blue background light. It is pretty bright in color so if you get the NAVI it should look a little better. I don't think that the screens needed to be so big on the non-navi. I haven't purchased a bluetooth phone yet because my contract has a couple of months left on it. I think most of the voice commands work on the non-navi bluetooth.

I wish navi was a standard feature - because its not - a lot of the features are harder to get to. HFL is retarded, i mean with navi theres a huge screen to help input and display numbers but you haev to manually enter numbers and contact with your voice because some people dont have the screen
I guess i want a more integrated computer - something like BMWs I drive

People can agree or disagree on the utility of the voice control that comes with the Navi, but when I'm driving in rush hour traffic, I find that it can be very useful when it comes to things like tuning in XM channels and changing the radio mode without looking at the screen (example: I'll be on FM-1 and want to go to XM-1; you can hit "MODE" on the steering wheel, but if I'm in traffic I find that it's easier just to hit the voice button to do it that way). Same thing in terms of changing the climate control mode if it's not on "auto." When I test drove two TLs, the first had Navi and the second didn't. I missed the voice controls very quickly on the second test drive!
I don't tend to use things like "find nearest gas station" or "find nearest fast food" all that often, though.
The "send" feature for the HFL has been useful to me a few times where I've saved an address in the Navi solely to be able to call the place (because I don't pay long distance on my cell phone).
Finally, as others have said, if you REALLY want to impress your friends, take them in the car and tell THEM to talk to the Navi after they hear the beep. People automatically assume that you have to train it to recognize your voice and they're blown away when they see that you don't. (Pick whatever of your friends has the strongest Southern or Boston accent to try this.) Yes, this last is kind of petty and is not by itself worth $2,000, but it's fun.
Bottom line in my worldview is that $2,000 is not very much money when you're already spending $30,000, so there is no reason not to get the Navi.

your right "your worldview" 2k is not at lot when your buying a 30k+ car put some people just don't want it or have no use for it, thats why it's an option... when we were looking to buy we couldn't find a 6mt w/navi in the color we wanted so i think that has a lot to do with it too.

WOW!!!!I didn't even know the non-navi cars even had a screen there!!!! Doesn't it all look the same when the car is off?
I dont use the NAVI all the time so most of the time its just a black screen....can the non-navi's also keep there's off if so, there isn't mutch difference in appearance when the screens are off.

I thought it would be a "toy" that I never used, but looked cool... boy was I wrong. I wont buy another car without Nav. I use it all the time, even on long trips when I know the way.. I like the miles and time to destination features. And nothing is cooler when showing people your new car than saying "find nearest mexican restaurant"...
btw: Same thing with XM, thought the idea was stupid until my 6-month trial ended. I called from the car to have it turned back on!!

I just recently bought my Tl about 2 weeks ago with navigation. At first i was thinking if i wanted it with navi or not with navi, but now that i have it i dont know why i would of even bought the car without. It is awesome, and especially for re-sale value down the road it is definitely worth it.
#26
as many have said, the integration the navi provides is so much better than the one the non-navi TL provides (from the factory). If you do wish to get the non-navi TL, I suggest you save even more money and look a honda accord. Larger car, same features (minus the HID's) and less money.

I'm happy without nav. The value to GPS for me is when I'm on business travel in a rental car - that's where the Garmin 350 comes in handy. But, I agree the nav will add to resale value - probably worth another $800 or so.
#28
One thing that recently occurred to me is how nice it is not normally having to carry any maps in the car on road trips. The reason it occurred to me is that I'm planning a trip to Nova Scotia and only one small sliver of that province shows up on the Navi (the area around Yarmouth), so I need to make a run to AAA. I suppose it will be interesting to see what happens when I drive off the spot where the Navi screen goes to black.
#29
I hear that having Navi in your car will actually lower your resale value because of the new vehicles comming out ahead of it. Its all about Technology and your 04' TL with NAVI may not be as sophisticated as your 10' Navi.

As I've said before in these forums on this subject, the best part of getting the Navi is that you'll never be one of the 10's of 1000's who didn't get it that looked back afterwards banging their heads in to the wall wishing they had. The extra $$$$ is worth every penny.
#32
Screw the added functionality...get the NAV because of all those extra buttons. Cuz boy do i loooooove those extra buttons!!!
But for real, if you can get it you will much happier. I dont, and I still love my car, but i would love it that much more if it had it

and does anyone have any pics of the 07+ non-navi screens?
i know they changed them that year, because i have seen them. i just dont know what they look like when the car is on and all lit up. did they get rid of the blue?

My first 3rd Gen TL (04) I got without Nav to keep payments down. My new TL (08) has Nav. I wouldn't have gotten another TL without it. It definitely enhances the overall driving experience and it has already helped me get around some unfamiliar areas.

1 sophistication aint why people buy used cars.
2 navi no matter how old is more sophisticated then no-navi.

Anywho,
Non nav 08 TL. Don't need it. I'm not driving a TL to impress anyone. I lease all my vehicles and having nav ain't at the top of my list when it comes to features. I'm happier and so is my wallet.
#38
^ If you lease it would of cost you about $5 more a month.. Your argument is BS.
WITH NAVI: You can simply tap the screen, and browse thru folders and mp3s. Everything is touch screen, it's very convenient and high-tech. Navigation system also offers touch address book, ZAGAT survey and of course the main part, an excellent navigation system.
Do Not get Navi IF you are planning on installing things like Avic Z2 and similar double din Navi/DVD head units.
If you can afford it, get it.

Not sure how much the navi will help you with resale value. I bought my car (non-navi) used and could've bought another TL with navi for cheaper but chose mine because it had much lower mileage. Sure, if there were two identical TLs for the same price except that one had navi and other didn't I woulda got the one that did, but most people would prefer lower mileage than navi.
