Non-Nav to Nav Conversion: Parts Guide & Walkthrough. . . HELP

So I recently got my aspec TL and I really wish I would have held out to find one with nav. I would absolutely love to do the conversion but the task seems overwhelming. I have searched, looked through the garage and other threads on this but there does not seem to be a true help guide. Here is what I would like to accomplish here. . .

- Get a complete, detailed list of parts (pictures if possible) and anything else needed/used to complete this project.

- Where are the best places to get your parts. Also, if you bought parts from EBay, who was the seller (so we can go through someone that someone here had a good experience with).

- If you had done this conversion approximately how much money did it cost you and time to install.

- If anyone plans on doing this soon, hopefully taking pictures along the way with the installation process. (I would love to just get the parts and pay someone to do this for me, seems very involved!)

- Anything else you could add if you had done or are in the process of doing this conversion.

I hope we can put something together to give more people who want to do this a better idea of how to and what they need.

the parks can cost from 2k to 3k+. The new navi drive and screen from the dealership costs in excess of 2k each. Then you need the harnesses, antennas, drives, screens, display units and tap into other places.

Sorry man, but I have to disagree. The information you are looking for is on here, just not in one thread. You just have to look for them.

I've included two very good threads in the 3G TL Audio & Electronics FAQ:
- Get a complete, detailed list of parts (pictures if possible) and anything else needed/used to complete this project.
first thread, post #40

- Where are the best places to get your parts. Also, if you bought parts from EBay, who was the seller (so we can go through someone that someone here had a good experience with).
second thread

- If you had done this conversion approximately how much money did it cost you and time to install.
what csmeance said - roughly $3K + lots of time

The conversion is doable, it is just that not members actually go through the process. For the ones that do, they have a trusty shop do it for them. jptl04 is the only member I know that has done it himself with the help of the electrical service manual. Good luck!

If you didn't get the Nav and want it, TRADE IT IN !!!

Though I commend the efforts of certain members here who've done it, the $$$ spent come out to the same if not more by the time you're done, not to mention the time involved. Worse yet, so much of your car has to be taken apart that its likely something somewhere will not be right when its done.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
THE BEST PART OF GETTING THE NAV IS THAT YOU'LL NEVER BE ONE OF THE 10's OF 1000's THAT DIDN'T BANGING THEIR HEADS INTO THE WALL WISHING THEY HAD.

I completed my Nav conversion a couple of months ago and let me tell you I dont wish this type of project on anyone. I couldnt find the wiring harness so I made my own by running every individual lead to the unit, display, steering wheel controll, handsfree link and ECM modules. All I can say is that I wouldnt do it again, but I was so far into this project that there was no turning back. I left one small scratch on my dash but other than that it looks wonderful. Total project cost was about $1,100. It's doable but requires patience. The electronic troubleshooting manual is a must. This has the wiring schematic for everything above. I went to dealership and copied the required pages. Let me know if you're going to tackle the project and I will scan the documents to PDF for you. Good Luck.
