So i walked drove my 04 tl this morning and realized no bass was coming from the speakers and the volume wasn't going up so high anymore. is this the sub? or maybe something else? any input would help thanks

 

Turn the sub all the way up then off, see if there's a difference in bass. I'm assuming you already checked the bass level?

 

Yeah, I did that and there was no difference in bass level. Also, the volume all the way full sounds as if it was halfway full

 

Bad amp?? Maybe previous owner messed with some wires and the sub wires came undone. Pull passenger kick panel off and check

 

Could be that your speakers are partially blown and that is whats causing the lack of output and bass, I remember this happened to my stock speakers the right was fully blown and the left was coming apart at the cone/surround and while it worked there was decreased bass and spl coming from the speaker like that until it fully blew.

 

so what did you end up doing? repairing or just replacing the whole system? how much did it run you?

 

I ended up upgrading my front speakers and sub and amp for both. My components (Morel Maximos) were about $130 when I bought them I believe, amp I got direct from Harmon Kardon (Infinity Kappa 5) for $200. Sub I just bought a used Rockford Punch P3 I got for cheap until I got a better sub which I got for $60. It didn't cost much alltogether, but it still is taking me a lot of tweaking to get everything sounding perfect, I'm trying everything to get all the engine noise out of my speakers. IF I were to do it again honestly I would have just switched out the speakers for a different set of 2 ohm comps on the stock amp and seen if I was satisfied with that before going and upgrading my amp and everything else.
