New Install - P99, with changer on 2008 TLS (NAV)
Greetings,
I spent part of the day at the local shop getting this done. Thank you to Andy at Creative Car Tunes, we had been emailing about this for weeks, and finally got it done today. Had a couple curve balls, but in the end it worked out. If you are within a 4 hour radius of Harrisburg PA, I highly suggest getting this shop to work on your call. Not only do they do a great job, and have very fair prices when you bring your own gear, Andy has personally pretty much did everything to be done on my TL, so he knows how the thing works.
Not that this is a ground breaking install or anything, but I feel the need to give credit to those I got ideas from, Acuratlsq, niebur3, RbeachTL, 3xbusa and rhdstinky.
Its a pioneer P99 HU, with a XDV-P6 in dash changer. I know there are tons of opinions about the quality of the OEM HU, and I certainly respect the purist perspective. Ive had the car for a long time, and it was time to try something different.
I picked the P99 for a few reasons.
- IPOD Functionality
- Aesthetics, and ability to mate with in dash changer.
- Sound quality
What was installed:
Wiring of OEM NAV to maintain functionality, P99, XDV-P6, PAC Steering wheel interface, RCA leads to Symbilink adapters in passenger kick panel, USB from P99 to Center arm rest console for IPOD
What I lost -
NAV Voice - which I never had because I stopped using the center channel long ago
HFL - Which I never used once
Bluetooth - Which I never used once
What I kept -
All Steering wheel audio controls
All NAV function
All HVAC function
All Function of Clock and HVAC screen at top of console
6-Disc in-dash changer
Blue and Red interior lighting (looks OEM at night)
What I gained -
High Quality USB Ipod connection that by-passes Ipod/Iphone DAC
DVD player to Future head rest monitors
A bad - ass SQ CD player
Pictures to come, Ill try to get these up soon. As I said, the trim pieces are not done, so its not going to look finished, but it will.
