DVDA Recommendations
Best sound I've heard, is Roy Orbison, "Black & White Night"; hard to find, but awesome!
"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" Elton John
Steely Dan, "Gaucho", & "Two Against Nature"
Just ordered, Dire Straits, (Brother's in Arms), & Pete Townsend, (Who Came First)

Look at the DVD logo on the back of the case it should say AUDIO, some will have both AUDIO and VIDEO and some will only say VIDEO (ex: Simple Plan's Still Not Gettin Any). There aren't any standards as to the type of content included on DualDiscs and as long as it meets with RIAA standards.

WTF? metallica has a DVD-A out? where'd you get it?
I got it at best buy....they have a DVDA section in the store...you can also order it online...It's sounds pretty good....there's not a lot of "extra" stuff like with linkin park reanimation, but the quality is nice

Fleetwood Mac - Say You Will is spectacular. It sounds better in my home stereo system (better separation), but it sound awesome in the car too.
This might not be everyone's cup of tea, but Barenaked Ladies Maroon is excellent in DVD-A. They really take advantage of the rear speakers, more than most other discs.
I've ordered a few from www.cduniverse.com and have been happy; great selection, great prices.

gt1,
Does that disc play in the TL? It says it's a DVD-Video disc on the amazon website... and that there's a visual component to the disc. Can you confirm it'll play in our car? Would you maybe have a link to a site that sells it? Please let me know. Thanks!

DVD Audio
Just got Dire Straits, (Brothers in Arms)
Just listen to "walk of Life", & "Money for Nothing",
in your TL. Turn it up between 30-35, & enjoy!
AWESOME!
DON'T buy Pete Townsend, (Who Came First)
Recording is no better than the original
I think it's a phony DVD A

The version I got was DVD only (with DTS and DD tracks). I had to burn a DVD-A to hear it in the TL. Did you manage to find a native DVD-A version?
BTW, it's Jean MICHEL Jarre, in case you want to search for it.

GreatWhite,
Hello fellow Canuck. How were you able to convert the Jean Michel Jarre DVD to DVD-A? I have obtained the DTS CD converted version but there's a lot of pops and stuff as there's no room for error-correction bits on DTS. So I'm wondering how you did the DVD-A version. Please let me know. Thanks!

GTI -- help me out here...I'm way behing the times when it comes to this stuff....are you saying I can by the DTS CD and then convert to a DVDA format using a software from Quadro masters?
Thanks

No, you don't need to conver anything. What I meant, that 30 years ago Pink FLoyd mixed their music in Quadrophonic. These masters were recently used to produce 5.1 DTS CD. This CD is playable in TL.

Can 5.1 DTS cds be played in 5.1?

Doc, now you got me curious. The way I understand this is if the player supports 5.1 DTS (the ELS does) you should be able to play DTS music discs in addition to DVD-A discs. Your other thread I mentioned DTS encoded DVD-As. I visited the DTS site and found they offer DVD-A dics as well as DTS 5.1 music discs. The titles I mentioned in the other thread are in fact DTS Music Discs which I assume is a CD. Check out the DTS Catalog and click on "More Info" on DTS 5.1 Music discs and they mention it is a CD. Also the audio options will say :"5.1 DTS for DTS-Capable systems". In addtion to the other discs mentioned, I have The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" music disc. FYI, when a DVD-A disc is inserted in the player, the readout will display DVDA and when a DTS disc is inserted it will display DTS.

Note: To eliminate the zero bits added by the ripping software before and after each individual track, I ripped the DVD as one large track and then created individual tracks from that. There's software to help you with this too. (Hint: make sure you use the CD standard 75 fps to make your splits, or you'll end up with zero bits at the end of each file and a less-than-seamless transition between tracks).
Hope this helps.

Hawhyen: I just realized my mistake...Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is a SACD which I believe will not play in surround...

AWESOME!
Sounds good, but those are probably my two least favorite Dire Straits songs. Oh well.

Seal Best 1991-2004 DVD-Audio. Disc has both a 5.1 DVD-Audio layer and a 5.1 Acoustic DVD-Audio layer. Sounds fantastic. To access the alternate layer of your disc, press and hold SCAN & REPEAT until you hear the beep. Enjoy.
