New DVD Install

Ok Guys, I spent most of this wek in Nags Head for a family vacation and I took all my tools and junk with me. I had a DVD install done by the same people who did SlimmyJimmy's but to be honest, they did an incredibly piss poor job. I was really pissed at how bad an install they did, so I decided to chalk it up to a learning experience and do it myself. Here is what I came up with... Hadn't seen this yet, so I gave it a shot. Took some serious fabrication and several pieces of my baby were left down in Nags Head in order to make this work...

Components:
Doms Unit
Wendys Camera
DVD Switch
PIE X3
Myron Davis AD212 DVD Player
Rio Karma 20g MP3 player wired to PIE X3

Console

Camera

PIE X3 & DVD Switch

IR Sensor

DVD Screen

DVD Player

Wired MP3 Player

Let me know what you guys think... Wasn't too hard to do but it was the most custom thinghave ever done... The door works perfectly and everything is working this time so it is actually done this time and it is done right....

Looks good, glad someone finally found a way to get a DVD player to fit in there and close the door. I'm gonna have to save up and get one of those switches from DCC

I can't believe you actually fit the DVD Player in there with the door! From the measurements I took, I thought it was impossible. Congratulations, looks great. Please show us how you did it!

It doesnt fit... and the one thing I forgot to take with me was my Camera.

There are two things behind the center console preventing this unit from fitting. A metal crossbar that holds a large wireloom in place and the black ducting for the AC.

The Metal bar was removed, just cut it off with a Dremel, then the ducting was 'adjusted' with a hammer to make it flatter. Once it was flat enough, the player fits. You can see the player is off center behind the pocket, this is because the left side of the pocket has the door mechanism and you cant mess with it. There is just enough room left for the disk to eject.

The pocket was cut down to fit the player, but the top of the pocket and part of the sides could remain intact...

Well that explains it. Good job being brave enough to cut that bar. Are you sure that didn't support anything important. Didn't add to a safety design?

I couldn't figure out anyway that it supported anything... It was very flimsy to begin with and it had two clips holding a wireloom inplace. Natural assumption was that it was there to keep the wires out of the back of the console.. No way would it have supported anything.

Wow! Impressive.

Can't believe you actually cut that bar there. That was the bar that was standing in the way of me "mounting" the Mediagate in that top compartment. I didn't even consider cutting the bar was an option. How much of it did you cut/trim off?

Congrats on the new install. It looks clean!

About that mount for your Rio, where did you pick that up? It matches the parchment interior quite nicely. I wouldn't use it though, but just thought I comment on the match.

I cut off all of it... Made my cuts on the blue lines here:

The insert is called KUDA. Interesting that you comment on the match... this is the Camel color that matches the Camel interior. I bought this when I had my OTHER 3G TL with the camel interior. It is very close, but they do have a Parchment that is an exact match:

That is pretty sweet Jeff!

Sorry to hear about my installer not living up to your expectations. I wonder what happened.

Also, where did you get that DVD switch? I was gonna look into that but didn't know how to make the switch. Wanna help?
