Need New Battery

I'm in the market for a new battery as mine is toast. It was a crummy one from when the car was all stock. A guy at my shop I go to is trying to get me to buy a Yellow Top for like $175 but I've heard that Kinetic batteries are really good for audio. I feel I'm just paying for the overhead and install when I buy a battery at a shop. Any idea on what I should get?? I know IHC likes the Sears Die Hard Platinum but it's only got 850cca and it's $210. Will that be okay? Is there something cheaper that will get me by as I don't plan on adding any more power to my setup...I might actually downgrade in power.

^craigslist man...craigslist. for tires anyway...crazy good deals to be had.

what you would be paying for ONE stock kuhmo, i got FOUR for $10 less.

just look around, you may be surprised at what you find.

good luck trunk!

^ Really? Damn. I wish I could find something like that! I'll check it out for tires

I'm still unsure about what to do on the battery. Kinda lost about what I need for my power levels. I don't want to spend $170-200 if it won't last me.

i just use an interstate with a healthy CCA level. seems to do the job. $70

Yeah, I'm wondering what CCA I need to do the job. I don't know if I can justify the money for that Sears Die Hard Platinum or an Optima yellow top.

i just put in an interstate mega tron plus battery in my TL. $128 (w/tax). my 2nd OEM battery was on its way out after another 3 yrs...decided to go aftermarket.

also OEM battery size is 24. not sure about the extra juice for the extra toys for the system...the interstate battery seems to have a lot of CCA power. also consumer reports ranked it first in this battery category. i don't have any of the audiophile extras in my ride. car seems happy though. i can let it sit for 10 days and it starts right up.

Yup. Going to get it now for $136 but I think they'll do $10 off if I give them my core. Not too shabby for a very high CCA battery

Can someone confirm for me if our battery cover fits over this megatron plus without any modification?

CR rated #1 for size 24. plus did a little reading on the web for reviews. all were very positive.

so far so good. i've let the car sit for 2 weeks before...started right up no problems.

time will tell with mine. it's only been in the car for a few months. lots of cranking power.

I'm not sure why everyone is chasing the highest CCA rating. Whats the stock battery, 450? It turned over fine, right? We're not trying to turn over a high compression big block or a diesel. I want something thats going to last a long time and let me run the stereo with the engine off. A lower CCA battery is more durable in extreme heat and vibration.

thanks for the insightful info IHC.

Your recommendation at this price point?

I'm not looking for higher CCA's as I know it's inversely related to lifespan. Just going based on reviews, research and CR.

BTW cheapes I found the Megatron plus is $100 bux installed and w/ core exhange at Firestone. I can do the install myself but it seems like there would be no difference in price. LMK if that's a good price.

The Megatron looks like a great battery for the price. Most people won't see the benefits of the "good" batteries anyway.

Honestly, the only battery I would recommend against at any price point is the Optima.

My priorities are a long run time without the engine running. My new system draws less power than the stock system at normal volumes so I don't need a whole lot of capacity. I can see how some people in very cold climates would need the higher CCA batteries. I didn't want to make it sound like a higher CCA rating is never needed.

Yeah I agree. Optima batteries use to be very good back in the late 90's and early 2000 but they are definitely not good now. They are just living off of their old reputation mostly. Had a bad experience with the OPTIMA I bought for my previous car and said no more.

Also just got this installed. And I must say.. that I do notice my cranking effort has gone down so I do notice the difference. Also what kind of reserve time can I expect out of this battery for those of you who own this battery. Just wanna be able to run my stock stereo for maybe 45 mts at most. while I finish washing my car in the summer w/o it needing a jump. LoL

I purchased my vehicle's batter from my local Acura dealer. It was 115 with install. I was shocked at how cheap it was. It's the Acura car battery made by Interstate, that's what the service advisor said.
