Subwoofer

Hey everyone,

I've recently bought a 2005 Acura TL about 2 months ago and I'm looking to upgrade my subwoofer, i'll worry about speakers next check. It already has an 800-Watt Amp in there, and I was wondering what do you think the best subwoofer would be to purchase.

I'm looking to stay within the 150$. Any less expensive that you feel is worth the money, send them my way. Any ideas?

800w max or rms? and 150 for a sub or for a sub with enclosure?

assuming you mean max and need an enclosed sub, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...e-GTR1002.html is probably your best bet.

The Renegrade has an attractive price but $100 is not a lot to spend
and online purchase can be risky.
Go to custom stores in your area and try them (pre enclosed)
in your car if you have the pre wire done.
The best way to test speakers {auto or home} is in
the exact accoustics they will play in andwith pre wired.
Some stores let you try them out and return exchange
within a certain time limit.

For that kind of money, look around for used stuff on Craigs List. You ought to be able to find some stuff in the JL W3, Type R, etc. range.

Make sure that you know exactly what you amp can do before you buy. Post a brand and model number if you need help.

Sorry its taken me so long to get back to everyone. I've always been into music and loudness with good bass but i've never had the honor of learning the electric aspect of it as in wattage and what not. So my Amp is 800W from what I seen, I can find out the model number next time I get out. What type of Specs should I be looking for in my subwoofer?

Would something like this work?
Pioneer TS W2502D4 Champion Series Pro car subwoofer driver - 800 Watt

Or would that blow it away?

You really need to know the specs of the amplifier before you shop for subwoofers, report back with the model number.

It's extremely helpful to know it's power output at different resistance levels, that will help you choose a sub or subs.

Finally had time to get everything found. It's a 800-Watt Maximum Power Kenwood, model number KAC-8403 (which I can't seem to find online). 60W ( RMS x 4 @ 40hms and less than 1% THD+NT.

Like I said, I'm very illiterate when it comes to audio statistics. Any suggestion on what to do?

That amp is better suited for some speakers rather than a sub.

specs are

RMS Power @ 4 ohms 60 watts x 4 channels
RMS Power @ 2 ohms 90 watts x 4 channels
RMS Power @ 1 ohm Not Stable
Bridged RMS Power 180 watts x 2 channels

well i wanted to spend no more than 150 or so for a sub, but for speakers I know it will cost a little more. I mean it's more of a don't want to spend a ton of money but don't want to spend any money on a crappy pair of speakers. Looking for Pioneers as thats what I've had the past but any will do

If you're looking for sound quality, the best money is spent on the front speakers.

Something like this would fit the bill pretty nicely, http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu..._12W1v2-4.aspx.

Even JL's lower line stuff will sound pretty good. Don't expect it to shake the neighbors out of bed but it should fill the cabin with quality sound.

Will that fit into the stock sub placement? or am I better off building a box for that?

No. Stock sub is 8" and you don't want to mount anything, especially a sub on flemsy metal. Bad Bad

Lol. Eggy isn't too fond of JL. I've never heard the w1, but I've had the 10w3v3's and now the 12w6v2's and their solid subs. For $100, I'd look into something else though. With an amp that does 180x2, you're going to need a different amp for a sub. Look into a 5 channel if you want to power speakers later. Power is cheap nowadays! Might not be clean or reliable lol..but it can be cheap

so a 5 channel amp would be able to hold speakers and a decent sub?

You could even do a power 4-channel. Meant to put 4 or 5 channel, not just 5-channel. Put that amp on craigslist and it'll probably bring your $50-75. You could pick up a powerful 4-channel, sub and box for now and be right around $300-350. Don't forget you'll need an amp kit for install. And installation..if you can't do it

JL's are fantastic subwoofers, I've had multiple 12w3's personally and when properly powered they are extremely clean and accurate.

I do not have any experience with the lower line models but I would expect the same clarity with a little less volume than a W3.

And yes, separate enclosure is a must.

OP, spend a couple bucks more and get either a ssa dcon or a dayton ho.
