Need help installing '07-'08 OEM backup camera

I have an 05 TL 6MT with Nav. I bought an 07-08 DVD ROM (my original 04-06 ROM was dead) and the white 4.63 Disc. Nav works great, no problem there. However, I have an OEM 07-08 Type-S back up camera that I removed from a junked car and installed on my 05 with plans on plugging it into my DVD drive but I've found the harness does not match up.

Why would they be different? the Nav drive is from an 07-08 and the camera from an 07-08. are the harnesses different between MT and AT? Thanks in advance for any info. Would love to get this working ASAP as I back into my garage.

Don't quote me on this but if you had to change the DVD drive, you may need to change the harness as well. Since the '05 never had a back up camera, I don't think that the harness would account for "future camera" installations. The camera would either be installed with an additional plug in the harness, or the '07 harness would have extra wires to accommodate for the camera.

The components in question here both came from 07-08 TL's (Nav ROM was ordered online from unknown donor vehicle, Backup camera was removed from a Kinetic Blue Type-S trunk by me personally) so all the wiring is there but it's not correct. The backup camera harness is too big to fit in the backup camera plug on the ROM.

After more researching, I definitely don't have a TL backup camera. Googleing the part number comes back with nothing really. The PN for a TL backup camera is 39530-SEP-A01 so I have no idea what the camera I have is actually from. The harness looks to be the same as the 04-06 MDX's even though the PN doesn't match. Very confusing since, like I said, I pulled this camera from a TL-S trunk myself. I also noticed the correct TL backup cam has a 7-wire male harness, the camera I have is a 6-wire female, now I'm wondering if I can even rewire this thing to work with the proper harness.

The joys of unknown history!

You have to get a video switch box that connects to the backup lights and the DVD drive in a sort of Y configuration. The box senses power to the backup lights when they come on and switches the video from the Nav drive to the camera.

Does the 2007 drive work with the 2004 navi system? How about the radio controls?

Your backup camera is correct but it's the subharness you removed!

I have an 07-08 Nav drive. It senses the cam is there but I just don't get a video signal (when I put it in reverse, the mirrors go down and the nav beeps and goes blank).

Yes the 07-08 Nav drive works perfectly...Radio controls and everything as if it thinks my car is an 07-08. Do you have an actual picture of that subharness? I can't seem to find a good one.

UPDATE. I bought another 07-08 camera from another TL-S part-out online and the harness is a female 6-pin.....DOESN'T WORK! The guy removed it and said it came from his TL-S (he sent pics)....

Anyway, I'm fed-up and I just clipped the wires and made my own harness using the Molex 100 KK plastic and pins but I don't know what the wires do. If someone can tell me what each wire color means or which order to place them in that would be awesome. so far, I have the system reading that a camera is there but i don't have a video feed.

Original harness:

Molex Harness (I've tried swapping pins what seems like endlessly, no luck)

I've been wanting to do this for a while and didn't think it would be as easy as you made it out to be. I searched that part number in the images section of google and ended up here:

Seems there is a green plug needed with wiring.

Did you ever find out what each wire from the stock TL camera is for? I'm trying to see if I can use it with a video switcher box with an RCA input.

This is an old thread I know but its the same swap I want to do so I thought I would keep it in the same thread
I went to the junkyard and found an 08 TL with the DVD and backup camera, I pulled the backup camera, harness for it and the DVD player
will this be a plug-and-play setup? if I put in the newer player and it does not work can I install the old player? its not going to do anything funky with the navi screen is what I'm afraid of

thanks

Some findings for anyone out there considering this swap*:
  1. 07/08 Nav unit is plug-n-play into 2006 TL w/nav
    1. If using an 2006 nav screen: the bottom 1/2" of the touch screen will be slightly off.
  2. The 07/08 OEM backup camera will work with the 2006 nav screen + 07/08 nav unit combo
    1. Requires wiring harness from the backup camera all the way to the nav unit.
      a. Backup camera ➡ Camera sub-harness: 32109-SEP-A00 ➡ sub-harness that's part of the main trunk harness (not sold separately)
  3. If OEM backup camera is not connected to the 07/08 nav unit, it doesn't do anything while in reverse and no blank screen either. Normal operation
  4. The security code is part of the nav unit
* Tested on a 2006 TL. May work on the 2004-2005.

Can you install a backup camera if the TL didn't have one istalled originally when it was new? Does the harness have the connector for the camera on it? I'm thinking of installing a factory Navi unit so I'm curious if the harness will have the econnector for the backup camera or not.
