Need clarification on Video info

I have been reading the stickies and understand all the different components people are using. But all the reading has me confused. Goal is to have DVD playback and iPod Video integration in the 07 TL I have coming this week. WOO HOO

Another post said I would need

1.) iPod video
2) Dom's TVandNav2Go (+PnP harness)
3) Aux-input (PIE X3, Blitzsafe HON/AUX DMX)
4) iPod to video/audio RCA out cable

Now I understand that Valor iLink and PIEX3 will give me the iPod video playback. From what I understand the TL Navigation will play DVDs already. So what would I need the TVandNav2Go & pnp Harness for?

I have been reading for 3 hours and I am missing something. I also still don't understand what the plug and play harness does?

I will continue reading but could someone clarify this for me?

TL nav does not play videos that is why you need the doms converter w/ his PNP harness. You will not need an audio AUX unit, the TL comes with one standard. Its in the bottom compartment in the center console neer the cigarate lighter. It is only on 07 TL. BUt you will need the USA SPEC HON2Y if you wish to control the IPOD though the steering wheel just ONLY when listening to audio(controling though steering bypasses video on screen feature. If you are confused, PM me.

as far as ipod video goes the valor link does not support the 80gb (what I have) ipod video. You really should call em before you do anything. I called em when I got my S back in october and they were planning some sort of revised model so maybe by now they might have something out. Just an FYI.

To help clarify some more,:

The factory TL does not support DVD-Video. You may have been confused with DVD-Audio, which is something different.

Dom's TVandNav2Go is a module that allows to tap into the TL's navigation system and display from two possible video sources (backup camera + media player). You can buy the Dom unit by itself which will require you to strip wires from the navi system and solder OR you can buy the optional PNP harness which eases the installation by connecting directly to the back of the DVD-ROM drive in the trunk.

This is for video interfacing only. The PIE X3 (or USA Spec or Blitzafe) will allow you to tap into the audio system. Hope that helps.

Thank you this clarifies a lot. One final question about this. I see people taking apart the whole center console. Is this really needed? Wouldn't it be easier to just run the wire under the carpet or are they doing this for a different reason?

Well i will discuss here with you then. DO you want to be able to control the ipod from the Head Unit when just listening to music? this will be possible when using a USA SPEC HON2Y Ipod/AUx connection. But the downside to this is that there will be no data related to the ipod being displayed on the navi screen. OR you can have control of the IPOD from only the ipod with info on the screen at all times, but you will not be able to control it from the steeringwheel nor the Head Unit. Just as a heads up, if you do not wish to have control of the IPOD when listening to audio, you can just use the AUX input that comes in the car from the factory in the lower compartment. It is a headphone jack plug into which you plug your aux.

What do people usually prefer? It would be nice to display everything on the screen but control from the wheel would be nice. Is there a way to do both?

And why are people taking apart the center console and dash? I do not get what they are doing this for.

Seems like you need to spend more time reading: 3G TL Audio & Electronics FAQ

No its not currently possible to have both features so you have to choose one. Does it really matter what people prefer? Its something that you will use in your car.

I asked what people prefer because I might get some input on points I did not think about.

Saftey wise, when not playing video or wanting data on screen, control from the steeringwheel is good.
BUt, if you want less clutter, confusion and smaller budget, you do not need steerinwheel control

It is needed to run the wires easily and better for power, audio and ipod hookup

LINK FOR CABLE

CONNECTOR (BROWN)

In words:

1. THe IPOD cable will lead to the Valor link, which will disperse the video and audio.
2. The a/V cables coming from the Valor Link will go as follows:
A. The Audio Cord will connect to an adapter (link Posted) to a Y cable (link Posted) to convert it into the headphone Jack that is in the lower compartment in the armrest.
b. The Video Cord will Lead to Doms TV Nav to go, which puts video onto the navi screen
