jl audio w6/w7 subwoofers
jl audio 500/1 amp for the ^^
jl audio component speakers for the front
speakers for the rears
and 4channel amp to power the speakers
Equalizer
you should be set from there on.

of course, you can go further and get a crossover and other stuff, but for now these should do the job

I agree with eggy. A budget is the first thing to figure before getting started.

You're more than welcome to hear mine if you're in the CA area. I think the W6s just might impress from a SPL and SQ viewpoint.

JL has become the brand that's cool to hate.

Hey Jason, I think I'm going to "upgrade" to one of the new HD amps for the subs. Do you think I would get any sort of SQ advantage over my super old Infinity Beta 300?

I may not be a "pro" with audio but I do, however, have an aftermarket 12" subwoofer installed in the trunk.
First of all, what is your budget?
Second, do you plan on keeping the stock amp but installing after market speakers?

The stock amp on a 2007 non-navi TL is as follows:
Center Dash Speaker = 3-1/2", 4-ohm, 15W RMS
Dash Tweeters = 1-1/2" (approx), 4-ohm, 15W RMS
Front Door Woofers = 6-1/2", 2-ohm, 20W RMS
Rear Deck Speakers = 6-1/2", 2-ohm, 20W RMS
Rear Deck Subwoofer = 8", 2-ohm, 40W RMS

So the size of the stock subwoofer is 8" at 40 watts RMS.

Third and I believe the most important question: Are you looking for more bass or mids and highs, or possibly both? But judging from your question about the stock sub, it seems you want more bass?
In that category, I can help you out.
If you wish to replace your entire system or stock amp, can't really help you out.
One thing I can suggest:
If you just want more clarity loudness from your audio, you can keep your stock amp and replace with aftermarket speakers. Basically, you can play 40/40 on your speakers without worrying about them breaking out because they are ,either way, underpowered..

Once again, I do not really excel in this area, just some guy who has interest with subs and trying to learn.

don't they kill you on labor for removing the entire dashboard though? i'm assuming it's not a quick job? i'm looking to upgrade my audio system on my 06 w/ Navi but am deadly afraid of what labor is gonna run me on replacing the 3 speakers on the dash.

by the way, no disrespect to anyone but i can back-up the JL brand with amazing quality and exceptional sound; i had 2 pairs of 12-W3's powered by 2 JL 500 watts amps and not only did it sound clean, the system lasted me 8 years without one single problem.... i agree they are expensive but i'm a firm believer in paying for a quality product

The speakers pop right out, no need to pull the dash!

to the OP, do you want it to be just loud? or Loud and Clear? Also what type of music do you listen to? Budget?

Depending on how you answer, it's going to change what we can recommend.

Either way, your going to need an amplifier, a minimum of 2 new speakers (front doors) and a subwoofer.

The problem is, playing it at full volume will still kill aftermarket speakers due to the distortion.

Stock speakers will sound much better with more power from an aftermarket amp but really, I would not do one without the other.

Here's a simple solution to all your problems:
www.crutchfield.com

What I would do is, do online chatting with one of their technicians or just call them up.
They will know exactly how to tune out your system the way you want it too.
