I have an 05 TL with navigation.

I haven't updated the nav since I got the car back then.

My question is if I pick up an update disc, will my navigation system become like the newer acuras where I have to park to change destinations?

I really love the navigation in my car. It is very easy to use and the zoom in and out feature is actually useful for finding road shortcuts unlike many other navigation systems.

I don't want it to change. I just want to update the map.

 

At the end of 2012, I updated my navigation disk to the 2013, V4.B1 (that's what is says on the invoice) and got exactly what you are looking for. Updated maps and no change to functionality or lock out.

 

No-- that was a hardware change.

The newest Orange Navi disc for our '04-'06 TL Navis will update the maps and points of interest, the clock software (to correct the dates for the automatic Daylight Savings Time changes) and the software for routing to make it a little faster.
The software changes were included in the 2008-2009 discs, so any update after those would only be to the maps and points of interest.
