Question Navigation System

Looking to pick up the perfect 07 TL, problem is it does not have navigation which is something I wanted. Is it possible to have it installed by the dealer and how much would it cost? Would it be wise to look for another car that has it installed?

Is the navigation system worth passing up the deal?

TIA

buying TL w/o Nav and than having the dealer install one will run you couple gran.

better off finding a TL w/ Nav; you'd be surprised that there are more TL's w/ Nav than w/o

What rooki said. Of course, you can add an aftermarket navigation system for much less.

How well does the system work? Is it a must have or nice to have?

I have an 06 and never liked the TL w/o the nav for the 04-06 cars (I think the 07/08's look not too bad w/o the Nav). If you think the nav is critical for everyday use, then look for another car. If not, and this car is everything you want and a great deal, I would get it. If you need a GPS only on occasion, get a Garmin or TomTom.

factory nav's are specially designed for TLs and its 100% compatible, updatable, upgradable (playing videos etc) and it cosmetically compliments the interior.

GET A TL w/ NAV! u won't regret it.

I drive a 06 MT non-nav (miss not having stock Nav) and recently decided against replacing stock stereo w/ double din. just didn't like the idea of potentially losing several stock functions w/o having to purchase additional aftermarket parts to re-acquire stock functions I once had.

erdoc48 hit the nail on the head, if funding is the issue: TLs w/ Nav usually mark up its sticker price 2.5-4 gran just for the feature. I use Garmin ($199) for GPS purpose, Isimple ($136) for Ipod compatibility, and have no buisness watching videos in the car.

There are definite flaws with the factory nav. A good portable unit will be a better nav unit. That said, in the TL, i think the factory nav significantly increases the interior appeal. Also you get the wider display thingy where the cabin temperature is displayed. Which looks better as it doesn't have a big plastic plate to cover around the clock. Depending on the year of your car, you can also import your cellphone phonebook and dial numbers from there. Getting an aftermarket in-dash in the 3g tl has some estethics issues because of the 2 round knobs that stick out. The aluminum trim is curved to accomodate the knobs, and that will remain after you put in a double din plate. As far as i know there are no replacement aluminum trims without those curve cut outs, some have done a great job putting other aluminum there to match it, but you can still tell.
I definitly recommend getting a TL with a factory nav system, not because it's the best unit on the market, but because it really compliments the interior of the car.

So it looks like I'll hold out and get the Nav then. I have 3 dealers looking for the perfect car for me but the problem seems to be that most TL's are leased here and the 07's are not due to be returned to Honda Canada yet. Guess it's just a waiting game at this point, oh well.

Dealer will not install factory nav from my understanding.. They told me it wasnt possible.. If you have experience installing an audio system you can install a factory nav into any TL for under 2k. I have a DIY where I did it. So if you can find a sick deal on a TL and are not scared to take your car apart do it.
