To avoid lag your .bmp pic has to be exactly this size:
It's best to do this in Photoshop to prevent further downgrade of the image quality. Do not do this in MS Paint. Quality will suck.
-Resize and/or crop your desired picture to 380x234
-Stretch the picture horizontally to 480x234 (This is to keep the aspect ratio of the picture and not looked squeezed on your Navi monitor). I've mistakenly avoided this step in kennyc's navi hack guide.
-Now go to the Image tab > Mode > Indexed.
-Set colors: to a value of 173
-Now simply save it as Back.bmp in .bmp format.
-The size of the .bmp should be exactly like pictured above.
Finally, inject your new Back.bmp back into the .BIN file with dump-navi or cebin. There shouldn't be lag anymore

Thanks, derick. Those are good instructions.
To be honest, I'm not sure if the 8to16 was what fixed my image or not, as I was trying a couple of things and it was quite some time ago. My suggestion is to start by using derick's instructions and see what your results are.
