Hey All,
I am getting the dreaded "disc error" message on my 2007 Acura TL. I took the disc out and noticed it was scratched on the outsides. I searched online and can get a new disc for $100-$150 but I do not want to buy a new disc if the unit itself is bad and would scratch up the new disc.
Is there a way to test it and see if the unit is bad? I have tried putting in other non navigation discs and they spin for a day or two and do not scratch them up.
Is there a cheaper older navigation disc I can buy to make sure my unit is working? I never actually use navigation anyway. I just use my phone.
You can try toothpaste to see if it helps. One issue is the disk reader in the trunk progressively gets worse and is a common failure after about a decade on these cars.
The disc appears to be the one that came with the car so anything newer should work.
I put the disc in my laptop and it seem to read it.
The only reason I want the disc is because the clock is not the correct time and I want to change it.
Can you change the clock without the navigation disc?3
MASS 08 TL, You're only hope besides unplugging the battery at 1:00 at least every 6 months is to upgrade to the '07/8 system - DVD drive and screen. The DVD drive is plug-compatible and you'll only need an adapter to plug in the '07/8 screen into your '04/5/6 harness. You'll be able to kiss your clock issues goodbye, get better graphics, AND get a disc for 2021 with all the updates to boot!

619rcr when I hit the setup button on my dash console it gives me the Disc Read Error. I can not access anything in the set up or menu.
DMZ my car is a 2007. Do I just need to get a new disc unit and a new disc?
Thanks
Since you have a 2007/2008 unit you can buy a used unit from ebay (make sure you get the VIN of the car it came from) or you can send it to alpine for them to fix. With the DVD error, you can't get into the settings menu. DMZ is referencing the 2004-2006 TL issue with the system being dated and not able to change time. 2007/2008 drives do not have this issue.
I could use an update on mine. What happened to the threads back in the day where people would burn them? They used to get rid of the warning screen too. Ahhh the old days....
That ended with the 06 drives and the ability to change splash screens and eliminate nag screens. That is why I would not go to a 07 and up drive to eliminate the clock setting issue.
