navi probs please help =(
I have been w/o navi for two weeks and really need it for work! one morning i got up to go to work and it just kept rebooting itself. as a week or so went by i cleaned the dvd, cleaned the drive (w/ dvd cleaner) and had no luck. THEN i even disconnected the batt for like 30 mins and reentered codes etc w/ no luck. Sometimes it gets to the prompt screen but after I hit ok it reboots again. I was told by the acura dealer that I needed to update my disc, for some reason I don't think that will fix the prob. Any suggestions??
take out the disk and look for any scratches. If none are present procede to the next step to force boot it:
1. Go to your car.
2. Turn your car's ignition to ACC
3. press and hold "GUIDE" "MENU" and "CANCEL" for approx 5 seconds to bring up the diagnostic menu a few seconds after seeing the acura logo.
4. Wait another 5 seconds to let it load up completely. Press "version" button on the screen
5. Press "LOAD DISC" to load your disk into the navigation.
6. Wait until it's completely done

csmeance - Thanks for responding. The weird thing is that I can only access the diagnostics menu after the "ok" prompt comes up. I forgot to mention that the prompt does not always come up, and when it does it disappears before I can do anything and defaults back to the acura navigation greeting screen. Initially I thought it was the navi unit itself, but sometimes it works for just a couple mins and then reboots and sometimes it doesn't work at all. My husband actually got to the menu the other day, but before he could press anything it disappeared again. It is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. The dealer insists that I order the new navi disc before making an appointment to bring it in which seems pointless to me. I guess if that is my only option I will have to go ahead and drop the 185++ on the disc and prove to them that it doesn't work.
I had the same problem
Navi would not get passed the start-up screen. Had nothing to do with the disk. An electronic component was overheating. It was replaced. Cost over $500 to do. Works great now. The dealer should be able to diagnose your problem easily.
So they called me to say they couldnt find any problems. Will be getting a new navi unit in the trunk tomorrow.
Until then - I get to cruise around in my 09 TL loaner. Nice car, but I miss the sportiness of the 3G

Same problem, but there's no reason for an overheat (and checking the unit shows no indication of overheating). Weird.
The DVD looks pretty haggard (I've been using it since I got my '05 TL in Dec 2004), so it's time to upgrade the DVD regardless. I'm hoping that fixes the issue, but regardless I have an appointment coming up for other mechanical issues (door actuator and defect in driver side mirror).

same thing happened to me yesterday... i swapped disks and still the same thing. but i was driving today and all of a sudden it stopped rebooting.. its been working fine now.. wierd.. maybe i just jinked myself... DOH
Got my car back today and they screwed something up with the billing. They forgot i had the warranty, so I actually got a bill. Appears they did $512 worth of stuff to get it fixed.
BTW - my DVD was spotless - not a scratch or piece of dust. I'm not saying that it isn't somebodies problem, but I don't think that's the fix all for most of you

ok guys think for a sec here. this usually happens when boot loader gets wacked... just like on windows platform surely you have seen that.
I ran into the same think after I tried to change the loader. to do the bypass "OK" button and the wallpaper.
my nav kep cycling.
I reburned cd and reloaded. and everything was fine after words.
do what csmeance sugested.... as far as replacing parts? possible but I don't buy it for a sec.
if they did replace so called parts requested them from the dealer and post back what they will come up with as excuse....

They haven't told me what exactly was wrong - they say there was just an internal failure.
Here is what I've got on the bill
052501 Navigation System Diagnosis - 70.80
0521A3 Navigation system control unit replace - 82.60
39540-sep-a41rm DVD Unit - 335.83
Then at the bottom it just says:
73971 Found internal failure of the navigation unit - removed and replaced navigation unit with reman unit navi code ####

Another (small) issue was that the wife and I bought the car together. But most of the paperwork was processed under her name. So I got a call from the dealership stating that I needed to contact AcuraCare to have my name added to the warranty. Apparently they cannot process a warranty based on the vehicles VIN being repaired - it has to be by the person the plan is under.
Well, at first they wanted me to fax them over some forms adding me to the account. Then they realized that we had financed it through AHF and they were able to pull all of my information off of the original documents in like 5 minutes.
Long story short though - even though they had a bill for me when I picked it up, they let me go free of charge and said they would get the paperwork figured out later.
