Navi backup camera?

Does anybody know of a good back-up camera install for the TL. I like the licence plate camera at avelectronics, but don't want to get the whole unit just for the reverse camera. I just want camera for the back of the car to show up on the navi screen when the car is in reverse. Would this be a complicated install? (would half the car need to be taken apart to install such a thing?)

IMO, I don't know the easy way, but it seems installing the backup camera into Navi TL should be the easy job for most of aftermarket shops now, you may like to ask your local shops, too.

By the way, I truly hope Acura could have teh backup camera on '06 model. So, I may find a way to get it installed.

2 options.

AVeletronics unit

Or trying to figure out a way to use the MDX backup camera system on your 3G TL... I looked at the parts on the MDX, they aren't cheap.

AVE plate camera is not a good idea because its way too easy to steal. In parts of atlanta, theves will steal anything and everything off of a car, i dont want to give them a easy reason (camera Plate) to jack my tag as well.

It comes with torx security bolts to hold the plate on. If they want to take it it won't be that easy

Forum user Vsokolov does these installs. He's located in Brooklyn.

Not complicated .. you'll need a camera (duh) and a Navi signal splitter. Ave has one, Vsokolov has one, There's a group buy right now through domofnavwithtv, but hurry if you want that one, its $125. through June 20.

You'll have to connect the splitter to the Navi signal between the Navi computer and the screen (video out) you'll have to connect the backup camera to the splitter (video in) you'll need power to the splitter and the backup camera, (If you're not doing any other video source both can be wired to your backup lights), and you'll need to ground it.

All in all your talking about 6 or 7 wires, all of which should be able to be done in the trunk, plus however you're going to mount the camera. Not a big deal!

Okay Brewmaster ... that makes sense ... but how does the Video from the Camera get onto the Screen? Switch? ... I would love to do this ... but want a automatic solution

an easy way to explain it, it like this

you hook a wire up to the reverse light which would then tell the navi converter to switch onto the screen(if you camera is plugged into the comverter, then it will show oin the screen). not the best explination, but hopefully u can understand that

I would love the back up camera because of the TL's FAT ASSSS, but I dont think its worth voiding the warranty on the navigation. Why not add a LCD to the visor and connect to camera to that. In the long run, the navi could potentially be very expesive to fix. Just my

It's my understanding that plug and play Nav converters do not void your factory navigation warranty because no wires are cut.

You may be right, but I ask my salesman and he informed me that ANY aftermarket modifications automatically void the warranty. I am not 100% sure, as we all know if we were to ask 3 differnet sales persons the same question, we would probably get 3 differenet answers.

Where do you get one? I searched Yahoo and Google and can only find backup cameras for RV's.

i doesn't matter if it's plug and play or you cut the wires

if you they notice it and you have a problem down the line, it's gonna be voided. best best is get the plug and play system and remove it when u need to bring your car in for service, what they can't see they can't void

it only voids the warranty if they can prove that your modification caused the problem. such as, if you have an aftermarket cold air intake in ur car, and u go thru a puddle, and it sucks water into the engine, ur warranty will be voided, but if u were to swap out ur CAI with the stock and bring it to the dealer then i think they would obligated to fix it, unless they can prove otherwise.
