My New completed project

Hey Yall, Havent been on the forum in about a month and a half. Time for a comeback. Wanted to update you about Estelle. ive done quite a bit of work on her since I was last here. I hard wired my BEL V995, powered FM Modulated her, Hooked up the AVelectronic unit, and Got the DVD player in my glove box. Bolted and looking NICE. heres pics. no need for more rambling.....Enjoy

BTW that is Eurotrip playing in the DVD player and YES I know it was INTENSIVE Surgery to estelle but now shes all better. And yea, I did it w/ my friend and myself! I went to car audio school here in OKlahoma and learned how to do it. It is bad ass. Only cost $350 for the class and they teach you EVERYTHING!

EggrollXpress great job by the way, enjoy your new little theater on the road. I am also considering getting the dvd switcher, but does it require all the extensive work you did on it, or is the way you did it, that made you rip apart the entire front area. Its funny cause in the website for avelectronics they say that all thats needed is two tap into a few wires, which sounds hilarious right now.

why would you want the dvd player in the trunk?! im sure you can put it wherever you want, but i personally would want it as close to arms reach for the driver, or passenger as possible. very nice install, is this a different conversion than that other guy did? in other words, is there more than 1 way to get dvds to play on the navi screen. if so, can someone post a new thread a leave pros and cons to each way with prices, etc. that would be AMAZING

Well, I suppose you COULD just tap into some power in the back (trunk switch, tail lights, etc).....BUT we learned in car audio school that you would blow something if you did that. So unless you want to see how much smoke you can have in your trunk, I think you should wire it to the front. All The extensive work I did on it was actually pretty fun. I now know Estelle inside and out and I feel confident about working on her by myself now if I ever need to. I took literally EVERYTHING apart. If yall decide to atempt this, I suggest a A LOT of containers for loose screws you take out so you dont lose them. I put them in my pocket but I only lost 3 so consider me lucky.

Yea, everything is still functional. I have a switch next to the side mirror controls tha I can flip on and off to switch between "entertainment mode" and the Navi. Its pretty neat. Looks stock. I have the sound POWER FM modulated so the quality whoops pretty much everything else's ass. The only better thing would be AUX input but thats not available yet (Future Project). While the DVD etc is on, you still get navi instructions and stuff. Its because the Navi system doesnt even know the entertainment mode is on even though it is. Hope Ive been helpful

I Could of, but I want the DVD player to be accessible at any time so I put it in the glove compartment. There is LITERALLY no room what so ever in the fron. I looked around for HOURS. Plus, I never used my tiny ass glovebox anyways so no loss at all. I could barely fit my owners manual in there to begin with. Atleast now it has a purpose.

Nice mod Now if we could somehow tie in a DVD players DTS outputs into the stock radio for video dvd playback in 5.1 surround, that would make it even sweeter. I actually have a panasonic DIN dvd player in my garage that needs a new home. I think this will be an up and coming project. If anybody needs a nav system for another car I have an alpine CVA-1005 with a CD-rom based nav unit (ca/nevada disk) that i'm getting rid of real cheap. First $600 takes it.

Nice!!! Have you run into any problems? I installed a custom system in my previous car and realized how aggravating things can get when you run into a problem. Were the instructions straight forward for the AV electronics components?

WOW.....that really looks awesome.....I'd be scared to tear into my car like that, but congratulations on doing such a great job!!! BTW....did you find anything inside the dash that could be improved to keep future rattles etc. from developing....once I had my Audi dash apart, and I found several loose cables for the HVAC system that I was able to insulate and prevent from vibrating...something Audi should have done in the first place.

Not a single problem. And now that I did it myself, I know what to do if(knock on wood) there is a problem.

I paid about $900 total for everything. $350 for the School, $425 for the Switcher and $20 for the FM Mod, and about $90 for the DVD player. The switcher was the killer.

They (AVElectronic) need to put up some detailed pictures of their unit and all its connectors in addition to the tons of pics of installed units.

I'm debating on the AVElectronic (Expensive but well made with lots of IO) vs the VSokolov unit (Much cheaper but only 1 set of inputs and AFAIK no easy way to choose sources.)

I just purchased the unit today from AVElectronic and Sam told me that the easiest way to install the unit is to tap into the Navigation power. He did not mention this would "blow something". Could you please elaborate a little more about the "blow something" comment?
Thanks

nice job. i got mine done a few days ago. i posted pics in this forum as well. did you scratch or make any marks on your dash or anywhere else that you had to remove to do the install? the place that did mine scratched a few things up, the leather got torn in a two places. they fixed most of it but a few things still need repair. also its a pain to put the dvd's in my player since they placed it near that metal hoor that catches the glove door. how does the fm modulation sound? they spliced my xm on mine so i just hit the switch and it goes from xm to dvd. i think for now on im going to watch whoever does my installs even if i have to sit there for 6 hours. enjoy you mod!

That's what I am talkin about...that's the only reason and the only way I would want to watch DVD's in my car
