Moto V710 - A Couple Minor Issues

For the most part, this phone has been great. The signal/sound quality is very good, Blutooth works (as it's designed) and it looks nice, too. However, there are a couple of things that happen on my phone that really shouldn't on a $500 (list) phone.

1. The top of the phone (front) gets scratched up from opening and closing it. Obviously, their tolerances were not too strict.

2. The inside screen gets scratched from rubbing against the number pad. I have about 6 small "areas" that are getting scratched and more seem to be popping up. The phone isn't supposed to close that tightly, is it?

3. The number pad "slides" around a little. It's not moving all over the place, but it kind of floats around (up, down, right, left) about 1-2 mm in each direction. Not a lot of movement, but definitely noticable.

Has anyone else run into these issues and/or found a solution - other than finding a phone condom?

weird, mine doesn't scratch near the top of the phone. The number pad doesn't move side to side, and it actually has small feet on the numberpad side near the bottom of the phone that seems to keep the screen from touching the buttons.. i.e. I can slide a piece of paper between the screen & buttons when its closed.

I got mine from the 1st shipment to verizon, did you get yours at RS?

Should I Get the V710

I really want Bluetooth on VZW. The people on phonescoop.com have slammed the phone. Here on acura-tl.com people are kinder to the phone. Is this phone worth the hassle just to have bluetooth

No, evidentally it is not. Wait for the Nokia 6230 before you take the plunge, as it may be a great alternative. If you're determined to have a flip phone (they are all the rage right now), then you may want to wait for the Ericsson flips that are supposed to be coming soon..like the z600 perhaps (although, I've read some iffy reviews of that phone as well).

I've been waiting since i purchased the car in october for a verizon bluetooth phone to come out. i purchased the v710 a few days after its release and i've been very happy. yes there are some issues... but they're really only issues if you let them bug you. if i step back and remember why i purchased the phone.... to integrate with the HFL, then i realize it does exactly what ive been waiting for. why dont you give it a try for the 15 day return window verizon gives you. u might be pleasantly surprised

Is Nokia 6230 going to be available for Verizon? I would rather have Nokia 6230 than Motorola v710 since it seems to have some minor glitches (at least for now) and I am getting sick of flip phones now. I would love to have SE phones but they will never be available for Verizon (very lame.) I would appreciate it if anybody can share some information on this. Thanks.

I believe that this phone will NOT be compatible with Verizon. This is a GSM phone (Cingular, ATT, T-Mobile), and Verizon uses CDMA.

Yes, I did get mine from RS the first day someone reported getting one (7/30, I think). The phone does have the ruber pads, but the screen hits the number pad before the phone casing hits the pads. I'll have to check into the warranty on this. I'm not going to pay a $50 deductible for this.

You may be referring to me? I got mine at RS 7/30. And I do not experience any of the problems you mentioned. I too have the pads that I assume will protect it.. I just wiped my screen with a damp napkin.. and I do have the tiniest scratch that I have to focus to see..Probably fingernail got it when opening it a little.. My screen must be off to see the scratch. .. I never do slam the phone shut though.. I always carefully shut it.. I think a couple times I accidently shut it pretty hard.

That would prevent the scratches on the screen and top, but the number pad would still be loose. Also, I shouldn't have to buy something to remedy manufacturing problems, nor do I want the leather case. I'll go back to RS and see what they say. If they won't do anything, then I will do a warranty exchange through the insurance sometime down the road - after they get the firmware upgraded.

Ive tried way too many bluettoth phone in the TL!!!

I have tried over 6 Bluetooth phones in the TL. With 2 different carriers. I was with T-mobile and now with Verizon for Coverage issues in my area...Verizons was a little better over the border in wisconsion. I have tried the Nokia 6600...terrible bluetooth in the TL..stay away, plus the phone feel like a hockey puck!! The Old SE T68i work pretty good in the TL, I just dont like that phone very much too small..tiny keys ok RF. The V600 blew!! RF issues and dropped bluetooth alot on TL...stay away. I got a SE K700i best bluetooth ive seen yet, although the phone is not avaliable in the states yet but fully works with T-Mobile very very well!!! Excellent RF (reception) just really goes thru the battery really fast!!!! Screen is great speaker phone is nice and the menus are friendly excellent phone if they could figure out the battery. Nokia 3650...ok but no battery indicator...sony seems to be the only one for handsfreelink that send the both the Signal strenght and the battery meter, Moto and Nokia dont. And Finally the V710...pretty good overall not bad with the Bluetooth but the Sony K700I blew everything away in regards to bluetooth...very clear and sync up fast and reception (RF) was excellent. But I do like the V710 overall better. Better battery life , speakerphone, faster menus and I strongly prefer a flip phone. And yes mine got scratched up top from opening and closing but not inside. Plus verizon seems to have the best coverage around here and the V710 has excellent RF maybe one of the best Verizon phones for RF. Just wish Verizon wouldnt have locked the OBEX file transfer from the phone...thats BS...cant transfer stuff from your PC to the phone via Bluetooth like the Nokia and the Sony (SE) Good luck hope I helped a few of you guys out with bluetooth Selection for phones. SO if you have t-mobile, cingular or ATT, the sonys work the best in regards to the bluetooth connection in the car. As for Verizon you only have one choice...V710 but its not bad!!

I don't think it's much of a hassle. I bought the v710 in late August from a Verizon Wireless shop around the corner from my office and have been very satisfied. But then, I don't care about stupid things like the camera or having 2 bazillion ringtones--I just want a phone that works reliably and will integrate with the HFL so my hands are free to shift, and this phone does that perfectly well. I have not noticed any of the issues these other folks raise (I have a scratch or two, but that's from dropping it). The only gripe I have is common to many cell phones--whenever I use it as a hand-held phone I wind up having to clean the screen.
