One is more than enough. Be sure to enclose it properly. I recommend fully sealed for wider range of low frequencies.

Sealed: Tight, musical bass @ slightly less volume compared to ported
Ported: Deep, louder bass. Can start to sound "one-notey" or "boomy"

I have one W6 pushed by an Alpine PDX 600.1 and it is LOUD! My advice, get some form of sound deadening to go along with it.

deaden EVERYTHING! it'll only add 250 lbs to your car and cost $1000. The TL is so loud without dynamat everywhere.

Actually I like your reasoning on waiting to see what it sounds like. Too bad I'm such a lazy ass and just have to do it all at once.
