Local Radio Station Question

I rented some small sized truck a few months ago when my Honda Accord was in the shop, and it had the local radio stations with titles of the radio stations, songs and artists, but obviously that wasn't XM radio, what was that?

I figured my TL would have that in its radio but it doesn't!!

Is there a way to get it?

Anyone know what this service is?
It was displaying like this:

KRXO - 107.7
The Beatles
Back in the USSR

Very cool...and all from the local air.

I looked it up on the Chevy Colorado, and its called RDS.

Now why wouldn't the TL's have RDS?

I think the TL should have RDS. My '02 Lexus GS300 had it. Not all stations brodcast the info. It is a nice feature to have though.

The TL doesnt have RDS. My Wife's Durango has it and I know which stations in my area bropadcast it, but the TL doesnt pick up any of that. It also doesnt do CD-Text.

I dont know what the hell Panasonic was thinking when they decided to leave these 2 little Gems out of the system. Especially with the NAVI screen. You got so much real estate, why not give more detials.

part of the reason i think is because they kind of partnered up with xm to make this system and they dont want the fm/am to have the RDS because XM has it.they try to get you to subscribe and trying to make Fm radio "boring"

Honestly, I don't care too much about this feature since few radio stations fully support it. I would much rather have Acura spend a few extra bucks for a diversity antenna system so that I could actually use my FM radio.

Dam marketing strategies, im sure it wasnt an oversight on Acura or Panasonic's part. My friend's IS300 has RDS and almost all FMs here transmit the radio name and song information.

I for one haven't listened to local radio for over two months now after getting the TL. What's the point? It's the same crap 50 songs on every station with 15 or more minutes of commercials every hour. Not to mention the inane chatter of local DJs. I don't think I will ever listen to FM again.
