listening to mp3 w/ cell phone and tape adaptor

Has anyone tried using an mp3-playing cell phone (ie. moto e815 from verizon) and using the headphone jack and a tape adaptor to listen to it in your car (similar to what you would do with a cd player if you didn't have a cd player)? PS- I know that

not a cell phone.......... i hav used my mp4/mp3 player with it and it was quite decent but bass was distorted as well as high notes and anything if loud volume
